How many hours do I need to train for boxing? I'll start my self training this weekend most likely after I buy some boxing gloves and a heavybag, and I was wondering what would I need to do and how long would I need to do for boxing training? Unfortunately with no gyms or trainers in the area it's unlikely I will be sparring or boxing in amateur matches, but since I plan on doing this anyways I thought I might as well get started soon. i'm looking to do some amateur boxing training, I'm already lifting weights, running, and skipping rope, I can run about 2 miles or 20 minutes of running so far, now I just got to get in shape for other things and learn to punch properly, I think I'm doing this correctly, but I will post videos for improvement advice. Advice is needed.:good
Speaking for myself, I started training for boxing around a month or two ago. I also couldn't find any trainers or a gym, so I figured that I might as well get in shape and learn as much as I can until I get to a place with a gym. That said I started here and I would definitely recommend you try it out: http://www.eastsideboxing.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60 Also check out videos on youtube, try expertvillage, that showcase basics like stances and punching. Overall I work out 5 days a week with the linked program. Good luck, and trust me if you are really motivated and stick with it. You'll see yourself getting faster, stronger, and better. Nonetheless, there really is no replacement for sparring. Bag work is fine, but getting in the ring with someone is a whole different experience, so just keep that in mind and try to find someone who might be interested in sparring with you.
I'm afraid no one can tell you how long to train for except maybe for your coach. It depends on your ability and fitness. Just don't push yourself, if you are in pain, that's your body telling you to stop; you don't want to aggravate any injuries.
