it wasn't about upgrading, it was about getting someone in there that he's familiar with. He was having trouble, obviously, with his uncle. I doubt that Santiago is going to be the main trainer for long. I'd be surprised if it goes past this fight.

Santiago has known Cotto since 1992, he's a long time assistant and disciple of Evangalista, and he trains many of the prospects that fght under Miguel's promotional company. These two will have a 9 week training camp(Cotto has spent about that time with every camp except the Margo fight where he did 12 weeks). This shouldn't be an issue for this fight. Nazim Richardson was a long time assistant of Bowie Fischer before he took over as Nard's trainer.

Oddly enough, I think Nacho Berstein would be a good choice.

Cotto trains himself basiclly anyway. Imagine what a work class trainer would do for him.

Assuming that he wasn't going to keep using his nutirionist I'd go with Joe Goosen. He would know how to use Cotto's natural abilities well. Someone like Mayweather Sr would just try to turn him into a slickster which he is not.

Sr. doesn't try to change anyone's style unless they ask him to.

Did De La Hoya turn into a slickster? Has Hatton turned into a slickster? Mayweather isn't Manny Steward, who seems to think one size fits all in terms of technique and strategy. Sure, Mayweather has probably done his best work with guys who were able to be slick (his son, Joan Guzman, Chad Dawson when they were together (and I still think Dawson was better with Floyd than he's been since)), but he's good with teaching fundamentals generally, even with guys who aren't slick, and I don't think he tries to turn every fighter into a slickster.

Long-term, I think Manny Siaca would be a great choice for Cotto though.
