Man I miss them old cards that Don King used to put up with the Heavyweights. That **** was totally awesome!

    Anyone remember this card?

That was a badass card dude. Man, you got guys like Rahman, Byrd, Golota, McCline, Holyfield, Meehan etc..all on the same card!

Don should try to make another one like this, that was a bitchin card.

That Meehan fight with Rahman was a nice fight too imo :deal

Don King held the Heavyweight division hostage, and consequently set the sport of boxing back a decade. Save for a very small handfull of entertaining fights, this era of Heavyweight boxing is a blemish on the sport.

I liked those Don king cards too. I know it's popular to bash Don King; but, he's no more crooked than any other promoter, and he made some big fights happen.

The TYson v Holyfield 1 card was great..

I covered that one and it was superb from beginning to end..

    Akinwande v Zolkin
    Moorer v Botha
    Tyson v Holyfield
    Beth Payne v Christy Martin
also featuring Ricardo Lopez.......... what an amazing card.........

That card pretty much bombed as far as I was concerned. Byrd/McCline was ok but the other 3 fights weren't very entertaining at all. In fact, the fight that they didn't show (Williamson/McCall) looked to be a pretty good scrap based on the highlights.

If people wanted a reason to bash the heavyweight division, Don King gave it to them that night.

The card that night was more based on match-ups and on paper looks, but cards like that, if advertised well, can be big.

The storylines behind that card were pretty good on paper. Golota always brings excitement and you had a legend (Holyfield) in the first fight. McCline/Byrd looked interesting because of the size differential if nothing else and Meehan had just come off his fight with Brewster, a fight many (including myself) thought he won. King gets the people to buy the cards but the fights don't always deliver.

Ok, first impressions. I didn't remember Kali Meehan being that big. Secondly, John Ruiz seems a lot bigger than I remember. Third, Golota should be used in some movies as a mafia enforcer with that look he has on his face. Fourth, Larry Donald still looks like a *****.

Don King had 3 of the 4 belts for almost 3 years and did not make one unification fight. Don King held up the division and his cards were crap.
