I left out the Legra fight because I thought his record was padded with a lot of spanish journeymen and he won the title from Winstone Johnson who is not considered a British great who burgled the title from a Japanese contender himself . The Legra - Fammo fight was also very close and not a marquee knockout like the Harada one was. A good but not great performance IMHO.

I thought about including the Murray Bradbury Award which Peden v Campbell I would have gotten hands down.

Interesting you say the Legra record was 'padded' mate. I can't disagree.
    Parnassus might have been responsible??

The same has been suggested about Rubin Olivares, with his 50, 48 ko record prior to belting Rose.... It may have been printed as 52 (50)?????

The Murray Bradbury Award wouldn't have been suitable for Pedan to take..

The Mundine/Ottke Award should have gone to Campbell.... lol

Legra's record certainly had some weak names on it but when you sometimes were fighting over 20 times in a year you would probably expect that..I think its fairly impressive he almost never dropped the ball in his prime with that schedule. When you find some more admired fighters often did when they had that many fights in a calender year...and they usually get a free pass on those losses because of the hectic amount of times they were fighting.

Legra's record is solid and he was impressive on film.

He wasn't fighting like a Champ fights - he was working all comers fighting twice a month trying to fill out his record.

Moving Legra aside, the original thread was about greatest overseas performances and I dont think this was one of them. I have watched the footage and Fammo kept slipping over, and tying him up - it was a **** fight. It was also super close on points and Fammo will tell you it wasnt one of his great nights. Might be top 30 but not top 15.

Now Fammo repelling and stopping Harada in Tokyo for their rematch - that was a great performance considering Fammo had been dropped 3 times by Harada in their first fight in Australia and was well aware of his power. Fammo looks wicked on tape in this fight and thats why I chose the Harada fight over the Legra fight.

No one is right or wrong but that was the rationale.

WaR, I dont think Legra is copping a negative view. His record is bloody impressive. He'd contested 100+ bouts prior to Fammo???????

With his ability, he'd clearly been avoided by many, for a long time. He kept active, and had his chances with Fammo. Parnassus loved the Promotions, no doubt striving to gain a F/W holder to his credit.

It was a **** looking fight but an impressive performance against past prime former flyweight isnt necessarily better just because it was more aesthetically pleasing to watch.

Legra could be very awkward...he was your typical athletically amazing Cuban, well schooled and most importantly just about in his prime.
All things considered I think its just about as good a win when you put into perspective where either guy was in their career. Thats my rationale..Legra was the career featherweight in the prime of his career..Harada was not.

I dont think its fair to say Jose was padding his record like fighters do today...I think he was just earning his living.

I think you're right WaR... Although Cubans could be 'outboxed'.....

Fammo was near impossible to 'outbox' at the time. To see him change places with Emile against Pep would be GOLD!!

Sakio Bika's overseas performance are worth mentioning.
The perception of him prior to the Beyer fight was that he was very average and had no business whatsoever of being at 168. He was considered a bum choice of opponent for Beyer at the time.
He was extremely unfortunate in the Beyer fight, and showed his grit and toughness in the Calzaghe fight.

Although he hasn't won all his fights, he's always put in a courageous performance is now a globally respected fighter.

I think any of Kostya"s title fight wins would be top of list he changed alot of those boxer's careers. (Judah, Sharmbae Mitchell.. etc ) after he destroyed them! KING KOSTYA !!!!!!!

Definately.. especially the demolishion of Judah. His knockout of Jean Bergmann is difficult to watch sometimes. The blokes head nearly fell off.

For entertainment values, Judah's is great family viewing.

I agree, some of Kostya's wins should be mentioned he fought anyone anywhere...

For joke factor value, Mundine vs Ottke should be mentioned - that was ****ing AWESOME
