There was a mention of Laing on this site a while ago. Someone mentioned being Laings great grandson I think.

Harry Laing was the Australian H/W champ back in 1894... a kiwi. Just hoping to find out who the poster was being his Great Grandson.. If he's still on this site???

    Its pretty important.

Mate, just trying to get hold of the bloke who said Harry was his great grandfather..

I have a reasonable amount of info on Harry as it is. A mate is putting together a book regarding 'the final resting places' of boxers.... know where he was buried at all????

Thanks very much JD. You're a great help mate.

Oddly enough, a report suggested Laing had sailed to the USA, after beating Goddard on new years day. Yet, he was in the shunting accident in Fordham NZ.. I wonder if he'd returned to NZ, with intentions of sailing to the USA afterwards??

Working on the railways in NZ was odd also... He was the Aust H/W champ, and could have made good $$$$ defending his title instead... wonder what the hell he was doing in NZ, working on the bloody railway at the time???

Ok... so he wasn't actually working for the railways.. Good stuff again.

The match with Dooley would have been a nice test. He was a great champion.

Well, Goddard was re-appointed as champ in 1893, upon returning from the USA. He'd already KO'd Mick twice in Title bouts. Perhaps Dooley was willing to see how Laing would fare against Goddard.

To be honest, I didn't ever hear of him having a brother. Perhaps you should conact Dave Cameron in NZ.. he seems to have taken over the mantle of N.Z boxing historian since Mike Attree moved to QLD.
