At his BEST, could any heavyweight of the last 20 years have beaten Mike Tyson?

A prime Holmes would own Tyson. Either Foreman, young or old would have a good chance against Tyson. Tyson never won fighting in the trenches. Tyson fought in a weak HW era.

I have not spoke to him since his first KO loss to Margarito. Last word I heard out of him was OOOOOOUUUCH when Sergio Martinez drilled him with that str8 left LOL.

tyson had everything joe had x10 except stamina. tyson's bulky muscles, perpetual movement, and the fact that he put everything into every punch drained him. if tyson doesnt knock ali out in 4-6, hes prolly getting knocked out himself.

about the bobbing and weaving, if you werent scared of him and maintained your composure you could time him rather easily. i know ruddock did on more then 1 occasion, as did lewis and golota, holy also caught him bobbing and weaving i believe.

holy and lewis always beat him, and the more i think about it vitaly prolly does to. cant think of anyone else though.

I don't think the Klits are fast enough to deal with prime Tyson, Lenoox will always pose s a problem but there's the chin factor so I would favour Tyson there. Holyfield is indeed always going to give Tyson a tough fight and that would be his Norton or Frazier to Ali.

For what it's worth, I think a prime, focussed Tyson would have bludgeoned Holyfield to bloody defeat within 5 or 6 rounds.
Don't forget, by the time they fought, Tyson's skills were already seriously eroded, and he was more or less just living off his 'monster' reputation.
Holyfield, all credit to him, did his homework and stuck to his gameplan, frustrating Iron Mike and exposing the weaknesses he'd brought on himself by skipping training, and partying with his entourage during those dark times.
It's an old adage, but rust never sleeps.
If you don't 'live the life,' sooner or later, you'll get found out.
Try asking countless champs who lost their way....Tyson; Naz etc etc
I fear Ricky Hatton could be reaching that point in his next bout...

Tyson is a Heads Up dynamo. At his absolute peak he gives absolute hell and can beat any human in history.

The easy thing to do is blame a fighters lifestyle for his shortcomings.......nonsense....if Pac beats Hatton, he's simply the better fighter period.

"The only fighter that can beat Mike Tyson is Mike Tyson."........all bull****!

People need to accept reality, and although Tyson was a great fighter, he had weaknesses and was beatable.

Due to styles, I think a focused Douglas beats Tyson everytime.......

Evander Holyfield is simply better than Tyson, that simple.

Lennox Lewis imo may have had issues with an early onslaught from a prime version of Tyson.
I believe Tyson knocks out Lennox early.....

I feel the same about Riddick Bowe that I do with Douglas against Tyson.....Bowe has all the right tools to chop Tyson down......it just comes down to can Bowe have survived Tyson's early onslaught, and if he did, Bowe destroys Tyson much like Douglas did.

What seperates Evander Holyfield from fighters like Douglas, Lewis and Bowe, is Holyfields chin......Holyfield could always survive a storm if need be vs Tyson, where the others may not be able to.

Two fighters in the last 20 years imo absolutely beat a prime version of Tyson.......
    Evander Holyfield and Vitali Klitshko!

Vitali has what his brother Wlad does'nt, chin and an enourmous will.

The others I mentioned earlier lack a real strong chin to say with certaintly they survive a feroucious early assault from Tyson......but they certainly could have beaten Mike Tyson as well.

And for all three of those fights Tyson spent more time chasing women than training! Rooney even said he was concerned going into the Tucker fight, because that was when Mike really thought he could get away with winning, without the hard work.

I think a prime Lennox Lewis beats any version of Tyson. Tall with a great jab and power that Tyson would have to respect, no chance Tyson walks through him, he would be outboxed and frustrated all night, Mike needs to land a haymaker to win.
Holyfield is another guy that beats Tyson more often than not. Many say that Tyson was past his prime when he fought Evander, but forget that Holyfield was also a few years past his best.
Vitali Klitschko, provided he survives the early onslaught, would also likely wear Tyson down and stop him late. Vitali would probably get caught early and would need his chin to get him through the first 3 minutes. I think he could clinch if in trouble early and land enough meaningful punches to hold Mike back a bit.
This perfect fighting machine that some people describe could be negated by tall fighters with a good defense and good jab. Tucker just didn't have fast enough hands to land enough solid punches or the big power to wear Tyson down. Prime Tyson never fought anyone like Lewis or Vitali that could do that. He did meet Buster Douglas on an off night and gave everyone a glimpse of what would've likely happened had prime Lewis or Vitali been around at that time.

i like how you give holyfield all the credit, only to retract it all in the later part of the same sentence. good stuff.

now, holy on his best day(circa bowe 2) beats tyson on his(circa spinks or holmes) simply put a great counter puncher beats a great swarmer.

Mike Tyson not breaking down mentally or going off the rails is like asking Andrew Golota not to throw low blows, it just aint gonna happen D'amato or not.

I think Lewis had a chance. That is the one who I think has a chance, and the big heavyweights who are just too big for him like the Klitchkos. They are too big for any older heavyweight.
