I say this as a big fan, by the way. I just think that he doesn't have the heart to do what a champion needs to do. Not to say that he didn't have it, but I think he lost it, or it was stolen from him. He lost to two fighters that I think he is much better then. Not to say that Kelly or Carl aren't beast, but any decent boxer with decent pop and good stamina would have and can beat them. Kelly is a plodder and Froch is very very amateurish. They do get the job done, and the best fighters don't always win...remember JT beat Bhop twice, and I don't think he's anywhere near Bhop in talent. Tarver beat Jones, too. I really don't think that Froch can beat any other top SMW...but this isn't about Froch, he did what he had to do, and he did it off of his turf...good for him. This is about JT...like I said, he's done. You can't be a great fighter without having a great heart. I'm rambling, but what are your thougts?
Jermain isn't done. He's going to be back and stronger than ever. First he's going to outbox Froch in the rematch, then he's going to call Calzaghe out and knock him out, too. Jermain is actually under 40 years old, so Calzaghe might not be up to the task, though. Finally, "Bad Intentions" will face Dawson and show him who the real champ is at 175.
Maybe.. But Wlad had the same problem and was able to fix it.. I dont see why taylor couldn't do the same. He just needs to pace himself better. Chins cannot be fixed but staminas can..
I hope that he isn't done, but I think he is. He might beat Froch, but he'd never get Joe out of retirement. Joe is on his Mayweather ****...he's only fighting people who bring huge money...and he can't beat Dawson...not a chance.
He can't pace himself when he's being pressured. He needs to get with Mackie Shilstone maybe...I don't know.
JT needs better stamina.. period. He has all of the other tools. His chin and hear ain't that bad either. He just needs better stamina. And from a tactical standpoint, when he has a fighter hurt, it's as if he gets too happy and throws himself out ala Pavlik 1. He needs to learn how to quickly pick his shots when he has a man hurt. Not just blind headshots. He needs to go up and down and mix it up quickly but accurately.
JT lost many fights or had too many close fights to begin with. Many people thought he lost or drew with B-Hop. JT was NEVER dominant.
When he hurt Froch, and put him down, he didn't go for the kill, and should have I think. The Ghost of Kelly was on his mind and he didn't want to punch himself out...stamina and confidence in his ability is what he needs.
Taylor didn't want to punch himself out, and Froch didn't go down like Pavlik anyway. Pavlik's legs were gone, Froch's was more of a flash KD. Also, Pavlik had been dropped before, Taylor had reason to believe he could stop him. With the benefit of hindsight we say 'well Taylor should've finished him off then'. Taylor will not beat Froch in the rematch (in fact, Froch knows he can take Taylor's punches and knows Taylor will gas, he'll start putting the pressure on from round 5 instead of round 10/11) but he can still make an impact at 168. He could beat Balkzay (spelling? WBO champ who beat Inkin) and he may have a shout against Bute (slim) He can still earn $$$$$'s by fighting the winner of Roy-Lacy after having a very, very easy warm-up fight (it didn't harm Roy when he fought Hanshaw and Prince Amaju :rofl) I think guys like Andrade (would smash Taylor to bits) Bika (good chin but Taylor could outbox him, however he exudes pressure) and Kessler (obvious reasons) would give Taylor the most problems. However, Kessler and Bute have both been hurt. Taylor may be able to gain their respect, something that may not be possible with Froch, Andrade and Bika) I loved Taylor and Froch's post-fight comments in the ring, two gentleman who dealt with the fight in an effortless and classy manner, I have even more respect for Jermain after this fight, but the Referee should've got him out of there three or four punches before he did, Taylor could've been hurt and it was nearly verging on the territory of the 1st Pavlik fight (when Jermain was truly wiped out)
I don't bhop came on too late...but aside from that, all of the fights that he won that were deemed controversial could have went either way...he was never seemingly blown out and got a win in my opinion.
Honestly, That was no flash kd...froch was hurt, and a true finisher would have done just that. I didn't think about it in hindsight, either. I saw how tenative he was when he had him down...like he instantly started to over think what was going on. Taylor hasn't had the career that Roy has had to fight the lames he fights:rofl...anyway, it was a great fight...and a canidtate for foty imo.
