Leonard vs Hagler Who wins the Rematch?

Hagler by UD or late stoppage. In a rematch he wouldn't have thrown away the first 3 rounds fighting right handed trying to prove he was a better technical fighter than Leonard.

 

Im not gonna bull****, Hagler if Leonard takes the fight without squeezing in every possible advantage he could get like a little *****.

If not, Leonard would probably win again...

 

Ha ha...good point MagnificentMatt, although I'm not sure what kind of leverage Hagler would've had in the rematch as he conceded just about everything to SRL the first time around. I still don't understand why Hagler chose to fight SRL with the bigger gloves, bigger ring etc. But, I think Hagler would've won a rematch convincingly. He would've been extremely motivated and fought southpaw from the start, and SRL's waving his gloves around the last 30 seconds of every round wouldn't have mattered.

 

If Hagler came out as the animal that jumped Tommy Hearns, He would have been a lot more successful, possibly putting Leonard into a lot of trouble. What was he worried about? If Hearns couldn't dent his chin, would Leonard? In three Major bouts Hagler Laid back & alowed the other fighter to take the intiative. Against Antuofermo, Duran & Leonard. Twice it cost him and the Duran fight almost slipped away.

 

Initiative? He was the aggressor in both the Duran and Leonard fights, and he counterpunched Antuofermo to a clear victory.

I didn't know he fought the first three rounds right handed. I could swear that he fought the third round as a southpaw. I also remember that he fought a good portion of the first round as a southpaw.Maybe you have a version of the tape where the third round is accidently inverted so that everything that is left looks right. You might want to check your copy to see.I do wish that Hagler would have stopped in the second round and asked Ray loudly so everybody could hear, "Hey, Leonard, did you come for a fight or a track meet?"The pattern of the first three rounds: Run, hold, and throw loud and looping shots on the top of Hagler's head, while Dundee screams "Stick and Jab! Stick and jab!"

 

And don't forget the ten or so closed door 15 round (complete with Clancy commentary, full walk in's and after fight interviews) sessions against top shelf middleweights on ships!

First Thing Comes To My Mind On The Ray Vs Hagler Fight, Ray Was Clever If The Great Duran Never Fought Hagler First, And For Duran Being A 135 Lber And Did Well Against Hagler, Ray Would Of Never Fought Hagler. Ray Was Smart, Never Fought Pryor, Fought Duran Quickly In The Rematch Knowing The Way Duran Would Take Time Off From Training, Love The Nightlife, Etc. Ray Was Clever. As Ray Had Everything His Way Before The Fight With Hagler Take Those Away Even An Aging Hagler Beats Ray By UD.

 

Duran, as champ, could have delayed the fight if he really wanted to, it's not as if Leonard wouldn't have waited till March or something.

Take what away? Agreements like 'fighting 12 rounds'. Hagler agreed the same limit with Mugabi and Hearns. :good
