Why do Americans dislike Hatton having a following?

Britains a little island across the water from you where we love our fighters even if their not number 1. We show loyalty and passion which manifests itself in our pound notes going missin and our plane tickets being booked.

America in contrast is a huge country who worships the champion and forgets the 2nd best. You say your supports not great but least you've got all the champions.

Well, where are you now?

 

As an Aussie cricket fan, I have seen mostly the English cricket fanatics - known as the "Barmy Army".

They travel in hordes. They are loud. They don't care if their team is terrible. They keep going and going and going.

Cricket is a game that takes 5 days to play. The Barmy Army don't shut up for even 5 minutes during the whole 5 days.

I have come to the conclusion that the are not actually great fans. They are people who are obsessed with the culture associated with being fans. They don't love the sport. They love loving the sport.
The lifestyle, the traveling, being surrounded by similar people all yelling out your identity to the world. That is what they really love. The sport itself isn't even relevant, anything will do as a focal point.

 

The Argies come close to the Brits for vocal support and They have one of the best chants I ever heard (for Boca Jnrs).

The Aussies can be pretty great too.

ANyway, let's not turn this into ANOTHER Anti-Yank/Anti-Brit thread. No need. Surely we can keep this conversation civil without trying to demean other countries?

 

If i'm honest theres another chant that has no place at a boxing match, USA USA USA !!! what the **** is that about in a fight between two professional athletes ? or is it the US v the UK now ? mind you i bet the clowns screaming that at the Froch v Taylor fight felt silly about 3 minutes later :rofl

The problem is you can't have a massive following like Ricky has without most of these fans being casual boxing fans/football fans. And most of them really know very little of boxing, even the Brits should be able to admit that.

On the one hand it's awesome so many of them fly to America to see Ricky but on the other their songs and dumb booing is annoying. I'll be rooting for Pac mainly because of them, I like to see such a confident crowd silenced.

The post about the sport being irrelevant is rediculous.

Its not called wanting to have a drink and a sing-song. Its called being patriotic.

 

I odn't think it has very much to do with patriotism really. The UK is known for being anti-patriotic.

It's about sticking with your guy/guys and supporting them as much as you can, win or fail and getting behind them enough to make a difference to them or their opponent.

Sorry its the opposite. Ricky had all the pressure in the world not to let down his fans. He wasnt focused before the fight, and he wasnt focused in the fight with Mayweather. He was constantly playing towards the crowd, making jokes about Mayweathers camp, letting Mayweathers insults get into his head. When Cortez took that point from him, he lost it and end up getting his ass beat.

You could see the change in Mayweathers demeanor in the last 24/7 ep, he was done clowning and it was all about business. Hatton was still playing to his fans at the weigh in. "Lets ****ing have em" Yeah Hatton, that worked.

 

Cant disagree. I travel to see the West Indies up and down the length of this country and the Barmy Army fans are just nutjobs. Im not going to lie its an absolute laugh the things they get up to but most of them arent there for the cricket or to watch there game. I remember them doing some beer line with about a 100cups. Once they got bored of that they tossed a bunch of blow up toys around the stadium and it just kept going and going. They wouldnt be quiet even for a few seconds.
