Mosley is nearing the end of a storied career and may only fight one or two more fights so I thinks its time to see how he stacks up against some of the greatest of all-time......His prime weights were 135-147 and was among the best of his era....lets see how he stacks up against the best of each weight class.

    Lightweight.....Mosley vs. Duran
Mosley was as unbeatable at this weight as Duran was. Duran had the better resume but talent-wise both are tops. Duran would win the series 2-1 but Mosley will hold his own the whole way through. Mosley had pop and would drop Duran but wouldnt be able to hold him off enough to get room and score on the slickest aggressor ever.A true pick em.

    Mosley vs. Julio Cesar Chavez
Mosley has the speed and power to get Chavex respect and outbox him and the same time. He also has the grit and toughness to survive a classic Chavez late rally. Mosley was no Whitaker but he was the taller man, more elusive, and his hand speed would be the difference. Close UD Mosley

    Mosley vs. Carlos Ortiz
Ortiz was a great all-arounder. Good pop, boxing skills, and could fight brawling or off the back foot but he wasnt great at one thing. He had a solid chin and was a great technician but Mosley's advantage in speed and power would tell. Would be close early on but Mosley will begin to seperate himself as it gets harder the natural counterpucncher Ortiz to get inside with consistent success and paying for his trouble with the sharper punching of Mosley

    Welterweight
    Mosley Vs. Emile Griffith
Griffith was a great all-arounder and threw blistering mulitple punch combos. Was great boxing or banging and had a great chin. He was well built and would be strong as or even stronger than Mosley. He was an inch shorter. Mosley had the hand speed advantage but Griffith would be the busier fighter. Also Mosley has the slight edge in power. Fought at a brisk pace at a high skilll level the win goes to SD
Mosley. Griffith was inconsistent even in his prime against the very best.
    Mosley vs. Sugar Ray Leonard
Leonard has the flashier combos, Mosley has the more explosive sharp punches. Both are about the same speed and power. Real nip and tuck but Leonards ring generalship and equal natural talent get him the win in a close UD.
    Mosley versus Kid Gavilan
Gavilans height, flashy style and jab will give Mosley fits. Gavilan was a lanky 5'10-5'11" with long arms and impressive combinations and hand speed. His ring flair would win the close rounds. Mosley would have his best success darting in and out but getting his best work done side. Gavilan started at bantamweight so its safe to say Mosley is the harder puncher of the two. Mosleys hand speed is a little better but it is offset by Gavilans great chin and slick defense. Gavilan wins a convincing but exciting UD.

Think he meant taller and more elusive against chavez.

Wasn't the greatest at 147 SRR? Don't believe Mosley will beat SRR nor Hearns. Pryor at 140 would have been pretty tough also.

Mosley was in no way more elusive than Whitaker.

Mosley wouldn't beat Chavez he is made for Julio. He loves to bang and doesn't always used his boxing ability also no way he as elusive as Whittaker or as sound defensively. Mosley doesn't have to power to make Chavez respect him the guy took a prime Rosario's best punches and was unfazed and Rosario hit a lot harder then Shane. He would probably lose a UD and look like he ran into a wall.

Prime Mosley could hang with any of the best 135-140 ever. 147 though, Griffith would beat him, Leonard would clearly beat him.

At 147, Griffith, Leonard, and Gavilan beat him. At 135, I would favor Duran, Whitaker, Chavez, and Ortiz. At 140, I think Pryor beats him, but I would favor Mosley over Tszyu.

I'd favor Hearns and Robinson without question (no analysis needed)....they would be far too much for Sugar Shane.:good

Requiem, you must understand that Chavez prime or is regarded at his very best at 135 lbs, not at Jr. Welter. He is boxer first before puncher and would slowly break down Shane Mosley.

Mosley goes to fight in the inside too much and this is where JCC would hit him with very meaningful shots and his chin will certainly hold up to anything Mosley can dish out. Mosley is also lighter on his feet but JCC is very capable of catching him with the way he moves with more good shots. Mosley would succumb to JCC.

You are almost talking as if Shane would only win this fight if he hydrates. JCC has beaten taller and fast fighters before.
