Not too many people thought back then that it should have gone to Lopez. It was close, but many including myself thought the nod should have gone to Alvarez. Again, like Bladerunner said, it was in Mexico and Lopez was like Chavez. For him to lose over there would have started a riot. He is still great and maybe we should all find it and watch it again and then come back to discuss. It has been so many years, but I remember all the hoopla of who should of won.

Why not? Finito Lopez was one of the best fighters of his era and a joy to watch in the ring.

Are you kidding? If you actually watched the fight that night then you'd remember that the online poll had Lopez clearly ahead!

I ranked him second behind JCC Sr . . . and Beristain as the best Mexican trainer.

Beautiful uppercut, hook to the body, great 2-3 punch combos(the left to the body and back to the head was his favorite), Jabs, ring generalship, cool under pressure, real good power. Great fun to watch!

No, I'm not kidding. I don't remember the poll, but it was popular to do back then and if he is one of the best Mexican fighters back then, who do you think was voting for him? I forgot where Alvarez is from, but I am sure he was out numbered back then with Lopez's fans.

If I actually watched the fight? The fight was how many years ago. I just remember that Alvarez should have gotten the nod or worse case scenario, a draw.
