How do I mentally prepare for boxing????

    I don't know what it is, everytime I think about boxing I seem to get nervous and get the butterflies. Because of this feeling I have not purchased a passbook and am not yet competing; even though my coach says I'm ready... even to fight in the tournament in July.

    I need your advice, are these nerves a sign of not being ready? Or should I suck it up and start competing?

    Dude you're putting too much thought into this, you are creating problems that aren't there.

    you're creating threads every few days about this problem or that (not that there is anything wrong with it)

    you just gotta keep doing what you're doing, ray leonard didn't have a message board to ask for advise on nerves or tournaments.

    you decide, speak to your coach if you need to, chances are he will know you better than us.

    I understand, but I took boxing VERY serious. The thought of just being OK in boxing haunts me. Which is why I don't want to fight until I feel as if I'm a nightmare

    only one way to find out if you're a nightmare man. even the best lose from time to time, that's just the nature of the sport.

    That's the thing, the BEST lose from time to time. Which is not what I am not (atleast not at this point)

    I have similar thoughts but I remember a certain saying "It's better to have tried and failed then to have never tried at all and regretted" That's what I think and I'm not even sparring yet, you can't go wrong.:good

    To much thinking will put you in a negative way. It doesn´t matter how much you train, you will always think "I can be better" or "the other guy is better than me". If your coach say you are ready, you probably are, he wouldn´t send you up in that ring if you didn´t know how to protect your self.
    With to much negative thought´s in your mind you will be a nightmare - for your self.

    Put up or shut up. You spent the time training, you put in the hours, you've earned the right to step into that ring and show everyone what you've got. If you're going to hem-haw around and ***** foot about everything, and talk about your "feelings." Quit.

    Harshly put, but essentially correct. Train your ****in' guts out, then you will be jumping up and down with enthusiasm to get in the ring. But first you must have lots of fight in you. Lacking that, then the only alternative is what the man said: "Quit."

    having butterflies and being nervous physically is a good thing, as long as your mind is right you should not worry.

    You're right, I create images in my head constantly of like a super human opponent. Always thinking I'm going to lose. I guess the fact that I've only been training for 2 months is what bothers me; but then again I go everyday and bust me ass.

    Well, if I plan on competing for the Air Force, better start now :thumbsup :bbb
