Its like the stockmarket worm...At first he was terribly overrated, then it waxes and wanes. I think he is a solid fighter with promise, albeit fairly unproven at the elite level. Some think he is trash, some think he is the next coming of christ. I always manage to find some middle ground in these debates..I think he is a solid titlist, not just a paper one, not just a knockout streak chasing freak show but who still has a lot to prove before he gets even near some of the raps that were put on him at the beginning of his career.
I would say underrated but his fans do tend to hype him up a lot. I would never pick him to win against Pacquiao or Marquez but never say never. Who on earth thought that Pacquiao, a guy moving up from Superbantam would beat Barrera back then? I say he should get a shot at the best in the near future if he gets by guys like Juan Diaz and Joan Guzman.
This dude really baffles me he looks like an elite fighter when in sparring, but stepping in the ring for an actual fight he looks sloppy as hell.
I would like to see him fight Michael Katsidis. Katsidis is a big puncher himself and like valero he knockout most of his opponent. He came up short against casamayor and juan diaz. I think he can be a good test for valero. He will be his toughest opponent. If valero can beat katsidis then he can start fighting the likes of Juan Diaz and casamayor.
A fight against Katsidis would be awesome while it lasted. Then again I also thought Katsidis-Diaz would be much more explosive than it actually was.
You'll think different one of these days. You'll think back and say, damn Jeff was right! Of course, you won't admit it! :rasta
