Don King ruined him. If Cus had not died, or even if Jimmy Jacobs had not died and Kevin Rooney had remained as his trainer (like Cus Wanted) he would have done so much more. After he got rid of Kevin Rooney, he went down hill very quickly. During the Douglas fight, his corner was using a prophylactic (condom) on his eye, no joke! He had nothing but leaches hanging on him. It's a shame. I truly love great boxers and Tyson had so very much. Made me sick when a great career like his was destroyed. They destroyed him with greed. All that work down the drain.

By they way, Kevin Rooney was the "only" trainer that could have kept Tyson at his very best almost like Cus.

Look at the difference from "before" Don King and after...............Tyson's style took a lot of hard training, Hell, he lived with Cus & wife, they adopted him. Cus knew how good Tyson could be and he was right. He could have done so much more.

I agree also. While I don't rank Tyson as high as some during his shirt prime when he was solely focused on boxing he was a truely great fighter.

Yes, he was quick, had power, but his style was difficult to maintain. His style took lots and lots of very hard work, his timing was extremely important.

True... but every man is responsible for their own destiny and Tyson deserves the primary blame here. If he wasn't such an egotistical, ignorant, ****wit at the time he would have seen what Don King and all the other cockroaches were doing around him.

I totally agree, Tyson was a monster in his prime. Possibly unbeatable?

Don King did ruin him but he must take some responsibility for his own actions.

He could have turned round at any point and said stop. Personally I think he may have been a little too young and naive at the time to realise how much he was being taken for a ride.

We were all robbed of a potentially great career from Tyson.

    A terrible shame.

How many 24 year olds would have the self awareness and responsibilty to step back and analyise their life when everything seems to be going right and their surrounded by wealthy business men and "advisers" telling him what to do.
let alone a 24 year old millionaire who regularly hammers very large and tough men.

Of course thats true but I think the point is he could have been THE greatest of all time had he continued his career on its original path.

Oh but of course. Tyson was a great fighter. Undoubtedly the best combo of speed and power ever seen. Great and underrated skills too.

Unfortunately, I dont think we ever got to see the best of Mike Tyson. The best version was the one that used combinations, used lots of movement and was very technical, but was still very inexperienced. By the time he started getting experience, he already developed some bad habits and started relying on his power too much. If he would've kept up what he had employed in his early fights, including dedication, discipline, and desire, he would have been able to accomplish so much more for a longer period of time.
