Leonard was unquestionable an all-time great, but he waited for Hagler to get old and shot before deciding to fight him.Throughout his career,he constantly mentioned the idea of fighting Hagler, but didn't do it until Hagler looked old and slow against guys like Roldan and Mugabi. In fact,self-serving egomaniac Leonard had a "will he or won't he" retirement party at the Capital Center in Washington near his home to which he invited Hagler,as well as many in the media,to attend, then teased Hagler and the audience, and "retired".Of course he came out of retirement and the rest is history. There are those who claim that the 3 years that Leonard was away from the sport hastened his being past his prime, which of course is nonsense. He was at least 2 years younger than Hagler-nobody never really knew Marvin's correct age,but officially it's 2 years older than Leonard, and Leonard had about 20 fewer fights. In fact,at that point in his career,Marvin was fighting only once every 1-1 1/2 years himself.I highly recommend a book called "Sorcery at Caesers.Sugar Ray's Marvelous Fight" by Steve Marantz.I remember the majority of those events as if it were yesterday.

This talk that Ray ducked Pryor is kind of ridiculous. Ray fought more greats from 1979 to 1981 than most guy would fight and could fight. Very hard schedule.

I am not a fan of Leonard, but he might let Floyd carry his spit bucket.

That childish "wannabe" villain seems to have attracted enough haters to be considered good enough at it. Floyd doesn't really give a **** if more people tune in to wish he loses rather than cheer him as long as people tune in and when he is able to attract that many then his "wannabe" villain act seems to be good enough.

While its probably unfair to say Leonard ducked Pryor, its well documented that Ray didn't exactly do all he could have to make the fight. Pryor-Leonard would have been a mega-fight & Leonard was the star so its a shame it never happened!

I do not think FLoyd was trying to put a damper on Leonard's credentials as a fighter - make no mistake about it, Floyd respects guys like Leonard! How can you not respect such a guy? However, it is well known Ray & Floyd have a bit of banter between each other whenever they see each other so maybe it was just a bit of banter from Floyd rather than disrespect!

When describing a prime Tyson as a bulldog, I think that was an inaccurate description. Tyson was a proper boxer. not just a slugger or just a power puncher when at his peak!

Floyd showed respect to guys like Whiteker & Pryor & Dawson. Nice to see him giving props to Dawson!

Floyd will go down as the best fighter of his generation!
