With the weight training and advanced supplementation boxers use, Do you reckon he would of started at a higher weight class? I reckon he would of started out as a middle and could of been built into an heavyweight
doubt it, I think boxers still fight as low a weight as is safe to do so while still retaining their good traits. I do however think he'd dominate todays 147-175 divisions with only a handful of fighters capable of beating him.
Not all modern boxers use weights and vitamins, protein powders etc.... Hearns would not have been successful as a heavy, even the new cruiser limit may have been too much.....!75/190 max for tommy..... Lets not also forget the day before weigh means tommy could have stayed at 147 longer, and would have to face bigger guys at 175+...
how williams maintained 147 and has now moved up through not getting fights at 147 he hasnt proved nothing all he has done is fougth at LMW and MW
Hearns would have NEVER been a heavyweight. Thats just ridiculous. Also, Hearns fought in the 80's... not the 30's. Training hasnt advanced THAT much since the 80's. If Hearns was prime today, I think he would rule 154-160 pretty easily. Tommy would have killed Tall Paul, and slow ass Pavlik.
Roy is a naturally bigger man than Hearns. Tommy is taller than Roy, thats it. Hearns maxed out at 175. I dont he think he could ever effectively compete above light heavy... not in ANY era.
Not trying to start a Debate, Paul Williams has a better chin than Tommy yet tommy had more power. Both incredible fighters. DRMULLEN
No, Hearns was so good because of his reach/leverage advantages. IF anything they would use 24hour weigh ins, diuretics to get him to a smaller weight, like 140 HEarns problem was he had no leg strength so got bulled around by the likes of Hagler/Barkley. Unless he got into his roadwork and squats that isn't changing
at the same time Hears had the ability to just glide round the ring out of danger whilst still landing bombs. He'd dominate todays 147-160 without a doubt and have success at 168 and maybe even 175.
I Disagree, based on the fact that PW has not fought fighters near as good or strong, as TH did. Let PW fight some some guys who are as strong, or as good as TH's comp was and we will see. So based on that PW is questionable as having a better chin than TH. I don't think PW would fair well in the the 80's. The current crop, though some good doesn't match well against the overall talent in the 80's. That was a good era.
