I think with the huge fights that are going on this year HBO boxing may see a bump in the budget, and may have even more dates set aside by the men upstairs.

man, dates are flexible. For instance, August 1st was an HBO BAD date, with Kirkland supposed to headline. Well, he's in jail and the new date for BAD in August is August 22. And you're talking 2010?

Flexible yes, but limited. I think that HBO has 25 dates set aside for 2009. Problem is they also have a max number of money to make the fights. So what happens is sometime good fights dont make the cut even if they have dates open. I think that Johnson vs Adamek is a perfect example of that.

yes, i know this. It seemed to me he was asking about specific dates, though.

Johnson-Adamek isn't a victim of budget, it's a victim of lack of interest from HBO.
HBO is apparently willing to buy Dawson-Johnson. Not that that fight is going to garner big ratings, but HBO is clearly hoping for Dawson-Hopkins or Dawson-Calzaghe to eventually come to fruition.

No its budget, or returns I should say. Johnson and Adamek are both what would be called sidekicks and neither is a stand alone mainevent guy. The money that it would take to make the fight and the return is what held the fight up. HBO actaully has more interest in Dawson moving to 168 which is why they talked about that non-stop in his fight with Tarver.

personally, and maybe you have knowledge that i don't know of, I don't think HBO ever seriously considered Adamek-Johnson. That fight does not make a lot of sense for them to spend money on.

I don't think HBO wants Dawson at 168, either. HBO turned down Froch-Taylor! Who do they want Dawson to fight at 168? There are no money fighters there. Good fighters, no draws. And now they are trying to make Dawson-Johnson. I'm pretty certain they signed Dawson to a deal to lure Hopkins or Calzaghe.
