Fight is off, Garcia didn't want to take it at this stage of his career. More details to follow.

Thats pretty disappointing , obviously a lack of communication there. Wasnt garcia consulted before hyde went and made the match?

Damn... what 'Garcia didn't want to take it' supposed to mean? Why back out 3 days before fight?

Hey BigBone, more details posted in the Irish thread.

He has an attitude that is going to leave him down at the highest level unless there is a dramatic change soon. He agreed to take the fight, did quality sparring, but has got advice from outside parties in recent days, and told his manager he was backing out.

I'm devastated - I love Cuban fighters at their best, and Garcia is the best prospect of any nationality I have ever seen in the flesh. What a shame.

Odo, you scared them away. :nut

Anyway, that's very bad news, I mean well, it's a known issue with Cuban prospects, getting the motivation etc. etc. Back in the team, they were pushed, so no 'no thanks' or 'eat and drink a little' (Solis) was allowed.

I heard today from someone in the know that the fight was off 2 weeks ago. I guess the manager didn't get round to telling people.

well if Luis was getting cold feet maybe he was hoping Luis would come around to his senses?

This fight would have been massive for Luis. would have really helped him move up the rankings.

I don't care how old he is and the bright future he might have ahead of him, I've just lost a lot of respect towards Luis... He shoul NEVER back off like that, wtf is that, it shows how fukin little confidence he has in himself....... he should accept even if it was against a champ... i dont care if he loses, I prefer 100000x that than s backing off attitude, what a lack of balls.. someone tell him this, fuk........

I decided to read your thread instead of Fitzidiots about Cuban prospects being over rated. Just posting to keep it above his. :D

Ahhh... that is disappointing. I was looking forward to another Luis fight. He has been ridiculously superior sofar and could need some resistance.

I know what you mean. The guy has been in there with the likes of Carl Froch and given an excellent account of himself. I am of the opinion that he would have stopped Campillo.

I think its a massive mistake for him to pull out of this one. It would have vindicated all the praise ive been putting on the boy.

I also have to remember hes still only a boy

To be fair, I don't think its a lack of balls - I can see why it looks like that - but he showed no fear in with Carl Froch while sparring, or when Mantas Tarvydas turned up before their fight a stone heavier. Garcia said "Let's go and fight, I don't care how much heavier he is."

The problem is that (1) He is getting advice from people away from his manager who know nothing about boxing or how it works in the real world, and (2) he has started to believe that he a superstar already.

I'm as guilty of that as anyone, bigging him up in the paper I write for and the internet sites. I ignored his faults because I was seduced by his raw talent, but I won't do so anymore. This criticism I and others have unleashed is all for his own good, and I hope he eventually realises that.

There is still much to hope for - the only one who can stop Luis Garcia from achieving his potential is Luis Garcia.

Wow only like 5 or 6 fights and he thinks he is a superstar someone needs to bring him down to earth
