The original '46 BODY & SOUL that earned an Academy Award nomination for best picture, and the Academy Award to Canada Lee, for Best Supporting Actor.
If we're including documentaries, Ring of Fire; the Emile Griffith story deserves a mention. I can't recommend this one highly enough - I'm not ashamed to say I had tears in my eyes at the end.
cinderella man, raging bull is a classic i enjoyed ali, thought undisputed was really corny, undisputed 2 was shocking, rockys are awsome, was dissapointed with tyson, going to search for a few more films you guys mentioned sounds like theres loads of decent ones whats the one with denzel washington in i hear thats good too
Crying Fist was a real disapointment for me. Does anybody know *cough* where I can get *cough* Body & Soul. I remember it being superb
Make sure you ask for the ORIGINAL '47 version of BODY & SOUL, 2t2s2 -- not the countless awful knock-offs done since then. The classic section of a video store or Amazon should have it.
Not mentioned yet and very worthwhile... Fat City The Great White Hope (James Earl Jones as Jack Johnson) Requiem for a Heavyweight (prefer the '62 version with Quinn; nothing against Palance, the Quinn one just has a better overall cast and writing) The Set-Up (see this!! a Film Noir boxing film (1949) with a great look at one fateful night in the life of a journeyman) Great opening scene from Requiem for a Heavyweight (with a bunch of old greats at the bar and then Ali). FFWd to 2:55; whoever posted it puts a bunch of crap at the beginning). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_X41_LuyLWI
