This thread is not about who would you like him to fight, but who is most likely to accept on such a short notice and promotional issues that might prevent them to fight him.

Wlad should really consider waiting. No credible opponent (as few as threre are) will take this fight with a week and a half to get ready. If he fights it will be against a corpse. What's Holyfield up to?

He will face Vitali in a 12 round "exhibition bout"....

the fight is 17 days away. that is nearly two and a half weeks. Fighters have taken fights on much shorter notice than that before.

I think he will fight Dimentriko or Chambers.

I too believe no credible opponent will take the gamble and that's why I put the "another walking corpse" option which I believe is what's gonna eventually happen. I did it because I genuinely believe Wlad and his people, even though they're smart businessmen, are seriously trying their best to save the card.
I guess HBO has a big say and the last word in this mess.

    My bad.

I think it would have to be someone who's already in a training camp though. Heavyweights are not known for staying in fighting shape unless they have a bout coming up. Except of course for James Toney, who stays in the same horrible condition even when he does have a fight coming up.

Since HBO has the last say I'd say either Chambers or Valuev. Chambers has the American appeal, where as Valuev has the "giant vs giant" appeal. It's got to be a name that's Marketable.

Since German TV has the very last say, it won't be Eddie Chambers...

Whoever's below Povetkin in the IBF rankings (assuming that guy doesn't have a fight scheduled of course)

No doubt Team Sauerland is digging up the graveyards right now.

By calling the card off, Wlad loses millions, weeks of training and negotiations with the stadium people, you gotta consider somebody will inevitably step in just for the money.

You base this on what? Last time I checked Wladmir was also on contracted with HBO. Was it the German's that help negotiate the deal between Klitschko and Haye. Last time I checked it was HBO, who adamantly pushed Richard Scheafer to help negotaite the fight between the two camps, since it was going no where. If anything HBO has more leverage.

True, Lewis vs Vitali was made in about the same.
