Not that the WBA derserves any credible attention... but isn't he going to be stripped for not fighting valuev for the 3rd time (or however many times it would be)? hes still the top contender as most people are concerned, but do u think the WBA will be aholes and strip him before the fight so they can keep their belt away from wlad? er, at least their "champion in recess" belt....
If they strip him I doubt they could have a vacant 'champion in recess' belt to fight for, it's a ****ed up situation even by their standards, so they would lose out on sanctioning fees. I wouldn't be surprised if they made some 'super champion' bull**** out of this. It's for the ring belt anyway even if Chagaev does get stripped so there will at least be a recognized heavyweight champ after it. Regardless of what the WBA do.
Just take my quote from another thread: Btw, the WBA won't do themselves a disservice and strip Chagaev b/c they would risk to lose sanction fees and that is what the ABC's are all about...
I don't think we've heard any word yet on if the WBA will endorse this fight, or not. But as has been said, while it would be good for the winner to *officially* hold the WBA title along with the others, it don't really matter, cause the man at WBA, Chag, is fighting, and the endorsement of the organization is not really needed for the lineage of the title to be unified with the others.............. But, as I said, it would be nice and make things more cleared up if they did. But if they don't, so what? We'll all know that the WBA was won in the ring in this fight, regardless of if he has the physical belt, or not.
It dont matter if Wlad wins or loses, Valuev will end up with the WBA belt because Chagaev was not cleared to fight. Even if Wlad did get another belt, theres still confusion as to whose the best heavyweight in the world, Vitali or Wlad? A question most people cant answer for sure.
well itd be nice since their REAL champ chagaev is active, if they just said the winner of this fight has to fight valuev. thats two bird with one stone...unification, and ridding the picture of valuev
I think it'll be sanctioned as a "Super Championship". WBA gets their fee, Valuev can still be called "Champ" and there's something resembling unification. WBA could get Ruiz off their back by mandating a fight with Valuev. Not that it really matters as one of the belts would be stripped from the winner shortly after due to too many mandatories due. Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if they elect not to pay the sanctioning fee... do both fighters pay a fee? I could see Vlad opting not to bother.
Reminds me of when Palle 'petitioned' the WBA to move Kessler to #1 contender. I am guessing the petition is on the back of the check? OK. Kessler was probably deserving, but still....... Shouldn't it be up to the ABC's to do their job of 'ranking' without petitions? atsch
Well the whole idea of the Super Champion is they only have a mandatory every 2 years or so to make it easier on the fighter so he is not bogged down with mandatory fights. That way anytime the WBA Super Champion fights the WBA can collect fees.
What was worse was he also petitioned them to make Miranda #2 before Miranda fought Abraham instead. Blows a bit of a hole in the "only fights bums because they're mandatories" theory that a lot of fans use to defend their fighters.
I never knew that the *super* titleholder had to face a mandatory only once every two years. That would make it easier for a unified champion to maintain all the titles. I still see the *regular* titleholder as rediculous and is, as you said, merley away to make money on his fees.......but it dillutes the titles to have a second spring up, once the main one is unifed with others.. I think boxing fans will only recognize the one champion, period, but if the idea of a *super* means a lighter and more doable mandatory schedule, that's a good thing that comes out of a rediculous scenario.
Their track record makes me think they will completely ignore this bout. It will be another thing we will be able to trash them for, as they hang on to goof ball Valuev. I see Mercer/Valuev down the road for the "title"
This is the WBA we are talking about. They have 3 champions (Super, Regular,Interim) in some divisions for christ sakes! I fully expect them to make this fight for the WBA Super Championship belt since it would be unified with other titles. They will keep Valuev as "Regular" WBA Champion.
I agree with Rico. They will conclude Chagaev was medically "fit" to fight and double their sanctioning fees. By all rights, Valuev should be stripped if they could prove King only scheduled the fight in Finland to stop it from happening. But I predict it will be for the "Super Duper WBA world title"...which isn't all the bad cause everyone will recognize wlad as the legit wba champ since chagaev never lost it in the ring...or at the very least, it forces Valuev to fight Wlad to gain any semblance of credability.
