Hes in a unheard of situation (i think) were realistically hes not gonna fight the obvious number 2 due to them being brothers. So by beating the third best heavy should he get the ring belt or should it be between the number 1 and 2 no matter the circumstances?

well they have a clause for rare circumstances where #1 and #3 can fight for the belt. The hope was that clause would be enacted with Mosley/Margarito. Either way, it doesn't look like they will do it though the committee may vote on it.

I hope not, as it is not a case of injury or anything, just that 1 and 2 flat-out refuse to fight.

    I agree.
What if the number 1 and number 3 were really good friends? Second cousins? Would the exception be made? Where is the line drawn?
What if there were two brothers who were willing to fight each other? Would that nullify Wlad's Ring reign?
Keep at #1 fighting #2 and save the #3 for like injuries, and even then it should be rare.

You know what screw it. Just somebody go beat up Lennox Lewis. Jump him from behind when he's getting some coffee or something... and then we know who the real champ is.

Wasn't Calzahe Vs Lacy for the rin belt, and weren't they #1 & #3?

Yes. Until Vitali retires there is never going to be unification of all 4 belts.

Even if they did fight each other, I have no doubt that the winner would instantly be stripped of at least two of belts.

Wladimir is the best HW in the world, he is fighting the number 3 ranked HW with a belt. He beats Chagaev, he and Vitali can claim Co-Champions of the World.

Ring have already had the #1 vs #3 rule in place for years now. So yes, Wlad would get the Ring belt finally.

The fact that his best possible opponent is someone he is virtually certain to never fight and many feel is better than him is a side issue. By the Ring's rules, Wlad or Chagaev will be the new title holder for them.

    Simple as that.

Right, so there is no clarity as to who the champion is. That's precisely why it shouldn't be for the Ring title.

To give it out in this case is simply a way of getting it out there, not to crown the true champion.

Yes. 1 & 2 will never fight and, as mentioned above, special dipensation is given for the right to fight for the title between 1 & 3 if, somehow, 1 & 2 can't fight. The HW division needs it's lineal champ and the Ring Belt will be a way of achieving that. It really says something about the quality of Wladimir's opposition, though, that considering all the time Vitali has been away he still hasn't managed to get his hands on the Ring title.

1 & 2 CAN fight, they just won't; that's the difference. Also, I think it's a bad idea to have a champion just for the sake of having a champion instead of because he deserves it.

Look Wald is a unfied champ, been whooping fools forever. Vitali sits out, I dont know how many years, then somehow gets a title shot off the back, you cant say hes the champ. Might as well give the ring belt to Wald after beating countless contenders and beating the #3 guy at HW, if he does
