Floyd Mayweather has claimed in the past to be the greatest boxer ever, better even than ring legends Sugar Ray Robinson and Muhammad Ali. Mayweather said: "I can quit today and be known as the best fighter that ever lived". "I respect what Robinson and Ali did for the sport, But I am the greatest, and this is my time."
I'll say this again . . . no question on the guys fighting skills . . . no question on the guy's athletism but he lacks meaningful fights and he leaves too many unanswered questions in his career for him to claim to be the greatest . . . most popular of his era maybe.
He aint been badly troubled in a fight...i think when he has to dig deep and really come off the vurge of losing and winning against another top fighter, thats when we can rate him among the greats, but never THE greatest.
There should be a middle option because he isnt the greatest but he`s the greatest of his generation & could well end up on the Whitaker type level when his career is done depending on what he does from here onwards. The ability is already there, he needs to do more with it.
agreed. you gotta be a huge dip**** fanboy to really think he is. floyds a great fighter but c'mon....
Mayweather Jr is a great fighter. But greatest??? May be the greatest product of HBO promotion machine
Several things need to happen for this to occur, but I believe he has the skills to accomplish it. More than likely he reaches top 20 status before leaving the sport, depending on the next few years.
IMO...if he beats PAC, Mosley, and Cotto....and KO's at least one of them....It will be hard not to put him in the top 5.
If he beats Pac, Mosley and Cotto then he MAYBE breaks top 25. Still don't like him as he is a joke of a human being compared with real fighters like Pac.
