He didn't retire because of that performance. He retired because he didn't need boxing anymore. Sven had no intention of turning pro and only did so because he was a very succesful amateur had a large following and made ALOT of money from this sport.
Oh come on. Calzaghe actually deserved to win his fights. Sven Otkke was given mafia decisions against Byron Mitchell and Robin Reid, and maybe more. Plus, Calzaghe beat Mikkel Kessler, Chris Eubank and Bernard Hopkins. This thread is an insult to Calzaghe.
And you are an insult to this forum. Ottke hat one real bull**** decision and quite a view close decisions. Calzaghe also had some close decisions where some ******s cried robbery (for example Hops) in his last fights...
Seriously have you even watched those fights or are you just a parrot with an empty vessell for a skull? The only rank spurious decision was the Reid fight thats it. And incase you handnt noticed Eubank was shot, and Hopkins was well past his prime. Notable wins including Kessler nothing more or less. Back when Sven was around Kessler wasnt even at 68, Hopkins was not a name yet and still milling around at 160 and Eubank was semi retired. Do the maths.
No he did fight a sort of exibition fight at the Dubai tennis club against a no hoper about 8/9 months before at LHW, hE WAS NO WHERE NEAR his Best only the most delusional Joe nuthugger would try and tell you otherwise
Exactly. Ottke wanted nothing to do with calzaghe and you can hardly blame him. Ottke was a complete fraud who benefited from several VERY duboius decisions in Germany
ONE "duboius" decision. Love it ore hate ist but in his active time he fought the better boxers than Calzaghe (and I really like Joe). Both fighters had close fights so does that make them both frauds?-(
Ottke was never WBC light heavyweight champion. Ottke clearly lost to Robin Reid in a "pantomime fight". Also, Calzaghe was the "Ring" champion at two weights.
Both had very similar careers. Defending a bull**** paper title in their respective home countries against numerous tomato cans and a selection of slightly bigger names. Calzaghe was a better offensive fighter than Ottke so he had far more KO wins. Their careers are in fact so similar they even had a very controversial fight with Reid each! The only difference I would say is that Calzaghe made the trip over the pond at the end to make some money against a few past prime 40 year olds....
