The mentality of the fight game has changed so much. In the era of Marciano, getting a cut was part of the game........Marciano once got his nose split so bad they thought he would bleed to death before the end of the round! Today if a fighter gets a cut on his eye lid they are ready to go to score cards!

There was no nautilus machines.....these guys ran miles up hill wearing army boots and lifted rocks for strength!

If Vitali or any of the heavy's from today got into the ring with a Dempsey or Jack Johnson they would think Hell had opened up and sucked them in!

He might have some success against Frazier but I see him dropping a UD against him because of workrate.

Vitali beats Patterson and Ken Norton by KO.

I love Smokin Joe, but if he got steam-rolled by Foreman, Vitali would probably kill him.

Damn good post, I did a long post awhile back on this very topic. I mean you cant deny the heavyweights of today are bigger and stronger, but they also lack the toughness of the Heavyweights of yester year, who didn't get paid the big money todays fighters get. Back then they fought to put food on the table, now they fight to get more cars and bigger houses.

Things sure have changed. I kinda wish it would go back to that, a time when everyone knew who the Heavyweight champ of the world was, which was a dream of so many kids from 1919 on, when Dempsey put Heavyweight boxing in the spotlight. It really was the golden age of sports, at the same time Babe Ruth was doing the same for baseball.

Foreman fought guys so terrible, it's not surprising he looked unbeatable going into the Ali fight. "Prime" Foreman's invincibility is a myth- the guy had no ability to adapt or fight smart, and his lack of being able to do anything more than "Hulk Smash" is what opened the door for Ali to win. He also got outboxed pretty handily vs Jimmy Young. Young was a good boxer, mind you, but not the kind of guy prime ATG's get handled by. Half of early Foreman's wins weren't even against winning fighters and the guy's record is basically even against top 10 competition- on those rare occasions when he actually fought it.

    Vitali would ice him, hard.

:rofl Foreman beat Chuvalo, Norton, and Fraizier, all with incredible ease before he met Ali. Who the hell did Vitali ever beat?

vitali is an ATG for his ugly-ass style, up there with the likes of Calzaghe; a far cry from the likes of Canizales, Finito etc. never have i seen such a stiff-ass robot. for that reason alone, he would give many ATGs some trouble.

Just look at thier careers, Vitali shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Foreman.

As much as I hate Calslappy and think he is a cherrypicker I will say this, he is also 10 X the fighter Vitali is. I've never seen a fighter as overrated as this guy, its really sad.

Foreman beat an ATG in Frazier twice, Hall of Fame Ken Norten, and a top 10 oppenent in Ron Lyle. I will wait while you tell me how many great or even good fighters Vitali beat. He lost by TKO to the only two good, or in Lennox's case, Great, fighters he ever faced. Foreman owns Vitali in the resume department, and I'm talking about when he retired in 1977. Thats not including what he did from 87 to 96 or 97 when he retired.
