I thought Robby was robbed in that one too.

Basically, I thought Robby was 2-2 against Fullmer and 2-0 against Pender. He should've won the middleweight title at least one more time than he did.

Robinson is sometimes criticized for receiving close decisions but he had a couple of important ones go the other way as well.

A remarkable fighter in his late 30's, Robinson was.

I haven't seen much of Pender but I'm not exactly impressed based on what I've seen. From what I know his middleweight reign wasn't truly recognized and losing his title to Terry Downes by TKO surely didn't help matters.

His fight against against Carmen Basilio (which was Basilio's last) is uploaded on youtube as well:

I thought that Robinson should have been given the decision over Fullmer in the third fight. I was a big Fullmer fan and remember being glad that Gene didn't lose the fight but to be honest I really in my heart thought that he did lose. Gene won the next fight rather handily. I haven't seen enough of the Pender fights with Robinson to have an opinion but am interested in the comments being made about those battles. Pender's fight with Basilio was a good win for him. Carmen hurt his left shoulder in the second round of that fight and fought the remainder with his right hand. I often wondered how he would have done in that fight with a healthy left hand as he always relied heavily on the left hook. He was clipping Pender pretty good in the first two rounds with two good hands.

Pender never fought Dick Tiger. How do you think he would have fared in a Tiger fight? Tiger was bothered by boxers and movers. Maybe Pender would have done better than Fullmer against "The Tiger" . Gene did well in the second Tiger fight by boxing and moving rather than slugging as he did in the first and third battles. Maybe Pender could have taken a decision in this one.

I just did "Robby vs. Fullmer 4" from '61 off of ESPN Classics.............. Robby losy the 4th fight pretty convincingly............ SRR still had moments, but they were far and few in them 15 rds fought in '61........

Basilio although relaint on his left hand for years had started to become a more complete fighter in his fights leading up to the Pender fight. He showed punches he had never throwing before like right uppercuts to great use.

But if he had his left hand he would have won

I admit, I HATE how the announcer would announce the decision or read the cards after the fight back in the old days........ They would TOTALLY take away the suspense.....

I guess in regards to Pender vs Robinson I, its me vs the crowd.

I do felt Pender won the middleweight title. but that is just me.

Pender beat Robinson in a bloodless, unexciting way, where it was a matter of styles and Robinson's age of course.

Paul Pender was bland as a bologna sandwich from an old 7/11 market on a street corner........... Pender stunk....... I thought Robby could've gotten the nod........

SRR really only lost decisively to Fullmer in the 4th fight of 1961........... By then he was indeed faded.....
