I just checked boxrec. Kotelnik won a silver medal as a lightweight -in the Olympic games previous to the one that Amir Khan achieved the same feat.
Like Khan he also lost on points to Mario Kindelan in the final. :D

I know this might be old news to some people, but I didn't know that. :think

Quickly back to the subject of the thread  ,this is to my mind Khan's breakthrough fight.
Kotelnik is certainly a determined and seasoned pro. :D

I completely agree he's being underestimated. This is not an easy fight for Khan and we really will find out how good Khan currently is after this fight. I think Khan will win it on points but it aint gonna be easy. Kotelnik is one tough customer.

This is an overrated lightweight who has been dropped and rocked by average British level fighters and was starched a couple of fights ago by prospect Prescott. He's moving up a division to fight a WBA champion.
From all the facts, Khan doesn't win this.

What if he had been facing Gavin Rees, would you have said the same thing then?

Thinking about it, I maybe slightly favour Kotelnik, but Khan has a chance. This is smart matchmaking by Warren, Kotelnik is just about the only champ at 13 or 140 who doesn't have the punch to starch Khan early. Guess their thinking is to try and cash in on him off the back of the Barrera win before some nobody puts his lights out again.

Too many people on here think that Warren has omnipotent powers...news flash, he hasn't.
