he hasnt fought any one i know he won the commonwealth title and has defendered it twice but the only one i know is gomez the fighter he was fighting for a vacnt title and the fight he fought in his fisrt defence i have never heard of them mitchell will beat him before his title shot and burns will have to work him self back up and will be lucky to get to european level look at his record every time he steps up arthur johanneson he loses
that comment may apply before the johannson fight, ricky would fight anyone, he admits now he wasn't ready for alex and he had food poisioning before carl, imo he would avenge both defeats now.the guy ricky beat in his first defence had only been beaten by ali funaki a world class operator thats maybe why kevin mitchell relinquished the title rather than fight him as he was the mandatory?
I think Mitchell is tougher than Burns......Burns allows his head to rule his heart however, and that gives him a better chance against Mitchell and Martinez and vice versa IMO. If Mitchell can stay on his boxing for longer periods during fights then HE can be World-class. I think even being gung-ho Mitchell can beat Martinez (he doesn't seem too tough) and his chin will stand up to Martinez's pitter-patter punches (god knows how Cook couldn't withstand them, they SEEMED powderpuff) What I'm saying is, I think Burns has the better shot at an alphabet title but Mitchell has more potential if he keeps his head screwed on :good
fleaman i think you need to watch the cook v martinez fight again mate, some of the shots martinez hit cook with were class, especially that left uppercut,if you don't think martinez is tough you must be watching a diffrent fight from me.
Burns is a class fighter who has managed to develop a style that eradicates any problems from his well publicised lack of punch power. I think he could win both the EBU belt and establish himself in the top 10-15 in the World at 135 lbs. Whether he could win a significant Alphabet belt is debateable but not because of him but due to class in that division.
I dont think Burns has improved much since he went with Billy, Alec Arthurs came too early for Burns, and as Billy said himself Burns had foodpoisoning when he fought Johannsen. I think Billy inherited a good fighter from the Barn Boxing Club, end of. I'm a big believer in the thinking that "if your going to take credit for a fighter giving a good showing, you must also take the slapping whenever one of your fighters get beaten.
pretty much the same as everyone else said. i reckon european and maybe world if its a weak champion, but his lack of power will be his downfall at the top level as he's not world class imo
My typo error there... it was a UD to CJ not a stoppage.. I stand corrected no problem. I think that the maturity and the way that Burns has developed since that contest is first class.... many people get drawn in against Carl.... that is why so many of his fights have gone the way the did... he is a banger..... but look what happened to CJ when he got banged..... Ricky Burns will suprise many on here if he continues to develop the way he is.... he has learnt so much in his fights and put that learning in practical application in his recent contests.... a real thinking fighter... :good
Toatally agree Billy..... Fleaman..... Mitchell was a whisker from his corner pulling him out of the Johannsen fight....and that was just at an under par Carl Johannsen at domestic level... I think that Martinez will expose Kevin Mitchell...Don't get me wrong here, I like Kevin Mitchell, but at this stage I think that Martinez is a bridge to far.... the timing of when fighters meet is vitally important, Hatton v Tyszu is a good example of this.....Mitchell is not ready for Martinez just yet IMO :bbb
Changing the subject.... Where is Carl Johannsen? :-( He might not ever make European standard but he's a bloody good domestic level fighter.
Picked up my ticket from Ricky tonight, he's looking forward to it and is an absolute gentleman. Mon the Rickster!!
