While OT, I missed this WW2 mini debate...

Historically true, but the German army, to use a boxing phrase, had much more of the "eye of the tiger" than the French - who folded up like a lawn chair when Germany invaded.

The nation, in terms of quantity and quality, that had the best tank fleet in the world was the Soviet Union (Russians, etc) ! The Germans severely underestimated the SU. While Germany initially did well vs the SU (better trained, etc), they were shocked when they ran up aginast the new Russian tanks in the ealry 40s - the best in the world at that time. Later, the Germans would develop superb tanks, but could not match the production of the SU and fight vs US+UK with weak allies.
