What boxing books have you read?

thats just all the books i have read im about to get afew more from Amazon so ill add that to my list

im also looking to get Willie Peps book and SRRs autobiography

also does carmen Basilio have his own book

Yeah Tapia's book is a page turner, although Boxing is a sub-plot to the stories of his grim upbringing and lifelong drug addiction. When i finished it I was hoping that writing it would have had a cathartic affect on him and cured him of his woes but judging from the tales of his most recent arrest there's a few more chapters of drugs and comebacks to be written.

i did read johnny tapia's book, i enjoyed, same as paul hurricane briggs book whioch i enjoyed

 

My Life Story by Joe Louis. It was written about 1942 and in it Louis summarizes most of his fights up to that time.

These were all among my favorites.

 

I read Moore's Ageless Warrior, Duran's Hands of Stone, some of McGuigan's 'Leave the fighting to Barry', my favourie is certainly Burley's 'Life and Hard Times of an Uncrowned Champion'.

And then i've read shitloads of compilation type books like 'the greatest 100 fighters of the century', 'World Encyclopedia of Boxing' etc etc.

Burley's is my clear favourite not because of the topic but the quality of the book itself in many aspects

 

Oh yeah i got Johnny Nelson's also but like McGuigan's i never finished that one unfortunately

 

So Nelson is boring even in book form?

i havent read that Burley book but i am intrested in it.

As for Nelson i have heard his is a great book.

also anyone read Benny Lynch his life and times

its a great book about Scotland in the 20s/30s (The Gorbals in particular) and Benny Lynch
