i agree at this moment, 2 years ago it would have be a very even fight with maybe cotto slight edge....

but not in today's boxing world.

 

Let's get it on then. 147 and for the WBO!

 

Everyone is losing their mind over the Pacman, he is a great fighter but far from perfect. He beat a walking dead man and a guy with no defense. Cotto is a monster. He has faught the best of the best and held up pretty well. Cotto is a different world compared to Hatton and De La Hoya. He is going to be too tough, big and strong for Manny. Manny is going to have trouble hurting Cotto. Cotto will wear him down to the body and destroy him. Just remember how many times Marquez was able to hit him and cause damage. Cotto will be much worse.

 

This is the best fight, excitement wise, that can be made around 140-147 in my opinion.

I definitely want to see Pac go in with Mayweather, but this fight will be far more entertaining in my opinion.

As for how it would go, I agree with the guy who said people are going overboard over Pacquiao, and he's my favourite fighter.

It's a real tough one to call, but if I had to call it, I'd say Pacquiao late stoppage or UD.

 

thats a gd post, regarding mannys opponent and his faults. i watched morales and marquez II the other day and pac is quite open for counter punches and he cant afford to eat many of those from cotto. cotto definately doesnt have the same aura about him anymore and i think a high profile big personality cornerman such as manny steward or the brother to give him some energy. manny is such a force of nature and is looking impressive but his last two wins have been overated due to his opponents problems and not his own. until the training camps have been completed i dont think i could pick a winner

Pacquiao is just to fast and will bust up Cotto, saying that I still am not sure how well Pacquiao takes a punch at these weights...Hatton seemed to bother him when he landed a decent shot, although it seemed to spur Manny on.

 

Don't forget that his chin hasn't really been tested above 130.

 

Marquez is a much better fighter than Cotto both offensively and defensively. Cotto's right hand is garbage compared to Marquez' who might have the best one in the sport. And Marquez' left hand is more versatile than Cotto's. Marquez has better ring generalship than Cotto and has 10 times more stamina. Cotto's been proven to have a big liability against southpaws while Marquez is a master at fighting southpaws (Casamayor, Pacquiao, Jaca, Jandaeng, Gainer). Marquez' chin is also more proven than Cotto's.

Using Marquez as a measuring stick for Cotto vs Pacquiao will throw you off. Cotto's style is tailor made for Pacquiao not to mention that Pacquiao is faster and smarter than him.

 

Why is everybody making Marquez a standard on how to beat Pacquiao? Nobody can come close to Marquez style of fighting not even against Mayweather because Marquez has a lot more heart and warrior instinct. Cotto is no Marquez and to compare him is delusional. Cotto is big I do understand that but as a counter puncher like Marquez? Please. Stop. Cotto is slow and If you play in your mind how Pacquiao boxed the dead Zombie fighter called Dela hoya that night, Cotto will still have a hard time against Pacquiao. Pacquiao has power. His speed has slowed down a bit @ 147 but still made Dela Hoya, the guy who has a solid chin, say NO MAS in his corner. You think Cotto has a better chin than a Drained Dela Hoya? I don't think so.

Pacquiao took Dela Hoya's left hook like a G! And that is @ 147! Hatton tested that chin and body... and that is @ 140. Diaz, though not a knockout puncher, hit Pacquiao flush in the chin and took it like a G. So what do you mean not really tested above 130?

 

Pretty tight analysis. As open as Pac may be at times, Cotto is not the quick accurate counterpuncher that a Pac opponent needs to be in order to be successful. Far from a mismatch - but I see Cotto getting handled soundly by Pacquiao.

 

Normally I would agree with you except that Cotto has fought in retreat mode for two of his last three fights. He didn't hurt Clottey to the body and was suceptible to the uppercut. Pacquiao is alot faster and probably hits a whole lot harder than Clottey. Also, Cotto has the habit of running out of steam, a problem which Pacquiao does not have.
