It's pretty clear Marquez-Mayweather won't happen. I haven't heard a peep about rescheduling the fight (obviously due to the extremely lackluster interest/ticket sales). So, IMO Cotto/Pacman will fight Nov 14. Mayweather NEEDS a fight in the interim just to stay fresh in order to face the winner. That means Floyd won't fight Cotto, Pacquiao, or Marquez in his next fight...So the question is, who will he fight? His options are... Shane Mosley OR Andre Berto In my opinion, Andre Berto is tailor made for Floyd. In fact, I regard Berto as a poor man's Floyd Mayweather. I think the fight would do A LOT better financially than many would think as the storyline is there (Berto young undefeated fighter trying to rise to top of division...Mayweather fighting a legitimate top 5 true welterweight and thus wont get backlashed from boxing community). Also, Berto needs to fight Cotto, Pacman, or Floyd (win or lose) in order to make a lot of money and also the potential rewards of beating one of these guys is huge. Given that Floyd hasn't fought for well over a year, this would be a good/cheap way for Berto to gain money/name recognition/best chance of beating an elite fighter. As for Floyd, I'm sure he looks at berto (deservedly so) as a very vulnerable opponent who he would tear apart. Thoughts?
I hope he still fights Marquez, although I doubt it as well unless they move the fight for september, in a high Latino population, and they lower the ticket prices, then I can envision them fighting. I know that either way a Marquez fight is more marketable fight than the two you proposed. Either way Marquez deserves this fight. He wants to prove he is the best and damn he should get the chance by fighting Floyd.
he is obligated to fight marquez, that's what contracts are for, unless he wants to throw away several million, give it time they will announce the future date.
Disagree strongly! Shane Mosley vs. Floyd Mayweather PPV #'s would get around 800k IMO. Andre Berto vs. Floyd Mayweather PPV #'s would get around 500k IMO. People who buy PPV's (which is how most of the money is made for the big fights) are generally die hard boxing fans. What we fans understand is that Marquez-Mayweather would be a ****, boring fight...Very little action is likely (as Freddie Roach alluded too). However, Mosley-Mayweather are 2 of the biggest name fighters of the past 15 years. They also provide a fantasy matchup which has been mulled over dozens of times by boxing fans. Andre Berto-Floyd Mayweather would dooo FAR better PPV #'s than people would guess. Although Berto's recent performances have been lackluster, he IS AN UNDEFEATED FIGHTER and a top 5 welterweight.
