I don't know him... my favorite boxers are Haye, Pacman (I'm 1/2 Filipino, Cotto (I've been to a lot of his fights).

But what drove him into retirement was a reasoned consideration of his chances of repeating the feat in a rematch.

It would be incorrect to call the victory a fluke. It certainly wasn't. it was one of the better heavyweight fights I've seen in the last seven years.

However, Lennox probably reasoned (correctly) that the chances of inflicting that kind of cut again were not great. And he would have to inflict it before gassing out. This was not a Mccoll or Rahman situation where he could avenge a third defeat, should that happen.

To retire with an unavenged loss on his record, possibly (probably) by stoppage, would detract significantly from his record.


(You read enough nonsense on here already from his detractors, stating that he anyone who loses to two characters like like McColl and Rahman can't be considered an ATG. His fans, can, however, point out how the rematches went).

It's posible he could have pulled out another win against the big guy, but it's not probable.

And that's the conclusion Lennox reached.
