If Chagaev wins then it sets up a undisputed heavyweight title match with Vitali but he always gets injured and would pull out of too many fights (I'm assuming) I also doubt if Haye vs Chagaev would capture the imagination of fight fans and media alike as Haye vs Klitschko? Hope the guy who wins is the guy who is best for the heavyweight division in general.
Although I would prefer Wlad to win, what's important is that we get a clear winner so that after this fight we will have someone to call "the champ"!
It's better for boxing if this is an entertaining fight. Probably better if Wlad wins, too. If the fight is a stinker, the apathy for the HW division will only be perpetuated.
It's much, much MUCH better for boxing if Chagaev wins, as long as he wins clean. If Wlad wins, guess what? The top 2 HW's in the division can't meet. **** that. If he loses, they can meet.
On the flipside, Chagaev has been very inactive, injury prone and fights down to the level of his opponents, it seems. Even though Wlad won't fight Vitali, he's willing to fight anyone else out there, including Haye. On the other hand, Haye-Chagaev would be entertaining, but nowhere near as good.
Oddly enough, I think Chagaev winning would really throw things into a crazy loop. Chagaev is a badass!
Neither, it's a lose, lose situation either way. If Wlad wins, it's more of the same boring jab and grab tactics that has put most of us to sleep over the last 5 years since Steward got ahold of him. Wlad has had 3 plus years as champ to get mainstream fans attention again, which he has failed in doing so. Chagaev is no better, his fighting style is not all that action packed and doesn't even pack that much of a pop either. Also his inactivity over the last 2 years should be cause for concern, I mean we dont want to see another Vitali type problem where the Heavyweight division is at a stand still again.
At this point I would have to say Ruslan simply because we will never have an undisputed Champion with both Klitschkos active. so its best for boxing to have Ruslan win so they can move forward with unifying the titles only problem is the WBA still consideres Valuev to be their champion.
I don't care about any of this. ANY division where the clear cut #1 and the clear cut #2 can't meet for propomtional or familial reasons, whatever, the division is hurt. There is no #1 fighter in the HW division currently, and won't be for as long as both Klitschko's are active and hold a belt. The Ring refers to them as the "two headed monster" - it's like people have become used to having TWO #1's at HW. Chagaev may not be active, but i'd be happier to wait 18 months for him to fight Vitali than wait FOREVER for Wlad to do it.
Wlad, then if Haye fights and beats Vitali (unlikely I know), we will have a genuinely sellable HW fight for the first time in years.
