According to this random person I came across on youtube who supposedly has connections with Top Rank, Pac and Cotto are negotiating a fight at 147 lbs however Cotto would be contractually limited to 152 lbs on fight night. [yt]wi38vhuGJEg[/yt] If this actually turns out to be true then what are your thoughts about this unusual development?
The annotation that's referring to Cotto "IBF" Title makes me somewhat question this guy's legitimacy. Could have been an honest mistake but ehh.
Let's forget about this guy's credibility for one second and discuss the possibilities of a fight night weight limit. What's your opinion about the prospects of Cotto being capped at 152 lbs on the night of the fight?
idk whats worse... Cotto killing himself to make 144-143 or making 147(not killing himself.... that much), but then worrying not to be over 152-153 I think is BS either way. just fight Cotto at 147 w/out stupid conditions & prove ure the P4P #1 by fighting a healthy Cotto.
that is an interesting thought, it would be like jr. welter's weights on fight night, i think that may be harder for cotto to come in on fight night at 152, he would have to cut off like all his body fat and may kill himself doing that......it would be easier for him to make 144 and go back to like 157 on fight night instead of coming in 152 on fight night, i think cotto would wreck his body if he did that.
Agreed. IMO Cotto would be more weaker than if he had to otherwise drain himself to make to initial weigh in thus given Pac a significant advantage. I'm a Pac fan but am also a Cotto fan and would hate to see such a development.
This ^^^:deal This is turning into a ****ing circus act. Just make Cotto come in at his normal weight and fight him but their acting like fanny's
Well without a catch weight the tide will inherently be in Cotto's favor because of the natural size difference. For the record I'm not in favor of the potential weight agreement presented in this video, but I am however all for a 144lbs catch weight which would somewhat even things out. I think most people recognize that at whatever weight they fight at, the winner still wouldn't be recognized as the definitive best welter anyways, and that the winner will probably end up facing Mayweather to settle the dispute so the weight shouldn't matter all that much. The number one factor in this fight is money which will not only serve as physical compensation but will also be used as future leverage in a potential Mayweather negotiation.
