was that fight not at superfeather:huh...i seen the repeat 2day....if the fight had been in belfast..we might have had a new champ 2day....the thing is considering how he fought... there is still a chance he could achieve something in the sport:good
this guy Lee fights is a joke. He was taken 9 rounds by a guy spike got rid of in 1 and mckay got rid of in 3. Is this the type of guy to be fighting in your 19th fight?
Wasnt Mrs. Hyland born in England? She was born to Irish parents who moved home when she was young. Not sure where I got that from!
it was on when I posted. I think the programme was called "Sporting Women" or something like that. It was really good.
Three golds for Ireland's boxers 20/06/2009 - 18:01:21 The Irish senior boxing team were celebrating a treble today after David Oliver Joyce, Darren O'Neill and Con Sheehan claimed three golds at the 2009 European Union Championships in Odense, Denmark, today. They were also presented with the team of the Championships award. David Oliver Joyce claimed his second European Union title in a row following an impressive 8-2 win over Sandro Schaer of Germany. And O'Neill made it a double with an emphatic 16- 2 win over Danish middleweight Stephen Alms. Sheehan, who won silver at the 2008 EU Championships, completed the hat-trick with an equally impressive 13-3 win over Spanish heavyweight Juan Augustine Aleman. Geraghty and defending bantamweight Nevin were beaten 13-3 by England's Khalid Yafai and by 9-7 Germanys Denis Makarov. And McLaughlin lost out 12-4 to Hungarian welterweight Balaza Bacskai. The Irish team will arrive home via Dublin Airport at 5pm tomorrow. Twenty nations were competing in Denmark.
No its not , Irish fighters in the main are being over protected and its sickening , if we want one of the current crop to be rememberes as a good fighter then they will have to prove they are good
and if 60,000 people witness Andy KOing this guy in the first round, his record will be immediately pointed out. Its lose-lose really for Andy fighting guys like this.
Gentlemen, We're now officially the biggest and baddest thread on ESB, after finally overtaking the Official Golota Express. That's a testament to the passion and love we have for our lads, pro or am. Well done to all. Special salute to the Godfather of Irish Boxing on ESB, the boss of all bosses, the capo de tutti capi, the one and only Ardy, who had a vision and commitment to keeping Irish boxing alive online. Ardy, fair play fella, you created a thread that became my first port of call when I get online, and a thread where I've made some great friends in real life such as Paddy and Ninebar. I'll be breaking one open in your honour tonight, mate. Thanks pal.
Long live the Irish boxing thread. We'll manage 10,000 replies no bother. Also well done to the Irish amateurs, nine medals is brilliant.
Fra, you are right, I meant featherweight. I think if that fight had been in Belfast O'Hara could have got the decision, he was hard done by with the point taken off as well, the ref didnt appear to give him sufficient warning. There were at least 4 or 5 rounds that were so close they could have gone either way and away from home he is up against in relation to getting the judges to score him those rounds. Breen and O'Hara were very generous afterwards in saying that Burns won the fight because it was very close. Hope to see a lot more of O'Hara and hope he can kick on from this. On a related note, it does make me more concerned about McCloskey's upcoming fight in Paris, he really needs to dominate the rounds if he has a chance.
