I'm gonna relight my Boxing career in the next couple of weeks. By joining a boxing gym, I have been doing some training in my garage on my own though. Well I say career, I really mean a couple of training sessions when I was 14 Anyway my question is. I'm right handed but I feel more comfatable in a Southpaw stance but obvioulsy my strongest punch is from my right hand, and I feel that me standing in Southpaw is a waste of my right hand witch would be alot more affective from an orthadox stance. But my jab is alot stronger in Southpaw I also feel ok in Orthadox but in training I always revert back to Southpaw Do you think I should stick to Soutpaw.... Or try and train in Orthadox....or become a switch hitter ala Junior Witter kinda style Hope thats clear :-D
if southpaw is more relaxed train southpaw. if you have a solid right hand that train the right hook and a good jab is the best weapon you can have in the sport.
i think it depends on how strong ur left cross is. if it's bad, then no i wouldn't do it. if it's at LEAST descent that it's ok. u have to think though that u want power too
You're probably like me, feel better fighting with your stronger hand as the jab hand. It personally works for me, I have power in both hands so doesn't affect me
I think you need to forget about the power cos that will come and just and just go with whichever stance you feel more confident with as that will affect your balance, footwork and defence.
Bremmer Bomber ,Most right handers usually get in a lefthanded stance when they decide to box.It is natural to them to put their right hand and foot out front because it is their strongest side....The fundamentally correct way would be to put your left foot and hand out front, with your left shoulder lower than your right shoulder by bending your right leg and keeping your weight a little more on the right leg than the left and your head in the center.Where does a motor go on a boat? Put your right elbow down toward your hip and open your right hand against your face with your right thumb touching the center of your Jaw.Start a back and forth rythem from the inside of your right foot to the inside of your left foot, shifting your weight back and forth by pushing off on the inside of your right big toe and catching your (step)weight on your left big toe and pushing back and forth keering your head in the back to to middle of your stance.Learn to do this moving left ,right, forward and back three steps each time.To go backwards, make sure you start by taking your head with your back foot and allow your body weight to pull you .....Hope this helps. If not,buy one of my videos from Title or Ringside Products for further info....God bless and good luck....kenny weldon
Not one of the most experienced guys on here but I had a similar situation and fought either way for the first 6 months. I then found that i just felt more comfortable orthadox and my balance felt right when moving and when throwing punches which i reckon is the most important thing, but im not trainer.
Theres some great Fighters who have Boxed opposite its a funny one. The problem is Balance, caused by eyesight. Your eyesight makes you either Left or Right sided, the dominant eye has more Peripheral vision than the weak eye. There lies the problem, plus most of the time doing other things one side is dominant while the opposite side stabalises your action. Its a tricky one atsch
