That was a more shocking indictment of where is heart and mind reside than the actual act in my opinion... i dont think i have ever heard a boxer utter the words,"i'm too young to be getting hit like this. I want to speak well when i'm older." these do not sound like the words of a fighter w any real ambition. Thoughts?

From his words, it sounds like he's contemplating retirement.

Unbelievable. My jaw dropped during that whole post fight interview. I can't believe the way this whole night unfolded.

The funny thing is, taken at face value his words are probably the smartest thing one can say yet these same words are held against him and are probably the reason why he'll never be great . . . well, at least not in this sport.

Good point. After uttering those words he's scarred himself for the rest of his career.

He quit in a fight when things got tough. He will quit again.

Well for sure his fanbase is gone. You cant act like a coward, afraid to get knocked out or afraid to get hurt in boxing.

he may not enjoy boxing. It certainly looks that way. Nothing wrong with that either. Why keep up the charade if your heart isn't in it? There's millions of people who don't like their jobs but plug away, miserable. If he gets out, more power to him.

Thats what I got out of it too. He also said "I am young but I do not deserve to get beat up like this."

It really sounds he got seriously shook up by those shots he was taking and realized the those kinda punches will keep getting harder and harder as he climbs the latter.

I bet if and when he fights again he will look extremely lethargic and be very cautious of trading toe to toe.

everyone is speaking the truth on this... speakin from experience, everyone eventually goes to those dark places if they fight enough... but to actually speak those words; and to do so in front of a national t.v audience shows a complete lack of self belief.

Very damned weak. most men hate to see or hear another man act like a coward and a *****. ok, he has the skills, youth, stamina, power etc. to hang for some rounds and have success. but , we all prefer to see someone with even less of these attributes show the courage in his heart. Ortiz aint got it.
