Not sure what exact quotes were but Kellerman basically said "in order to be a boxing great you need to endure more punishment than the average boxer just to see if you have what it takes to be an alltime great".
Then Steward said "it's not like in any other sport where you can take a timeout to regroup or rest when you take a time out during the action the fight is over".

Now this is pretty obvious stuff to the hardcore fan but I just liked hearing it from these 2 guys. It's almost liked they expected the outcome to turnout this way becauuse they were all over it as soon the fight was over. I'm not nutthugging these guys either. I'm a big steward fan but Kellerman is just OK in my book.

Steward is in DISGRACE following the Cotto/Clottey fight. This is slightly redeeming.

Steward anooys me sometimes - he seems like he waffles during fights depending on who is winning at that moment. He kinda mumbles too. People think I'm nuts, but the only HBO commentator I ever liked besides Lampley was Big George.

Riding the erect staff of Clottey all night.

Far worse than Kellerman's nutlicking of Berto during the Uragno 'fight' even, which I thought to be impossible to achieve.

I think they're right. I'm not a fan of someone knocking a fighter for quitting since it takes all the balls in the world to get into the ring and to make it to that level to begin with. But it's a fair observation that you can't strive to be a great if you can't stand up to the pressure of a close, tough fight.

I have to disagree with Kellerman, what about great fighters that are known for their excellent defense and were never really beat up on. So according to his criteria Pernell Whittaker is not a all time great cause over his carrer he rarely got hit flush that often. I love the all action fighters and fights but it takes a lot more skill to stand in front of someone hit them and not get hit, that is the goal right? I love Auturo Gatti but you can"t tell me he"s greater than Pernell. According to Kellerman he would be cause He took more punishment than the average fighter and Sweet Pea did not.

    I agree.
I never understood the argument that "he (name a fighter) sucks because he cant bang and take punishment":nut

Call me crazy, but isint the art of boxing to punch while not getting punched. Most guys defense is horrible and I give major credit to the fighters that have it. It takes a lot of work to develope good defense
