Hey recently started boxing and loving it. Been doing a lot of sparring trying to get use to slipping punches, rather than blocking and not doing to well with it.

Any way's, I'm looking for some drill's or training techniques i can do at home. At training we do some eye contact work before sparring and a little bit on pads, but the movement doesn't feel very natural too me.

Basically looking for drills to improve footwork and body movement when slipping punches, anyone have anything for me? if you can video's would be much appreciated.

    cheers macca.

Just go with blocking, or when you slip keep your hands up. Usually at our gym, we have two people stand in front of eachother, and practice one throwing a jab and one slipping it

In the mirrow just keep practising the motions, that way your body gets used to making the movements which means it will be able to react faster when you need to slip it.

while shadow boxing in the mirror focus a lot on head movement. also, sparring is the best place for it and its where you can really develope the ability to slip punches well.

Shadow boxing in front of a mirror helps. If you have a large mirror, put some tape across it to make break it up into segments and focus on moving your head into a different segment between punches/combinations.

Simulated sparring helps. Give your opponent strict instructions on what to throw (I usually say 3 combinations) and work on slipping his punches.

A little thing that might help, its a Biomechanics thing. The problem is usually a feet thing not giving Oral stability the secret of movement. Get some knee pads, those that Tarmacers use and Shadow Box on your knees. moving the knees shuffle away and the knees will work the shoulders in Balance and posture. It takes a bit to get the hang of it, but when you do youre flying when you bring the feet back into play. :hi:
