David lopez one of the most avoided fighters in boxing?

I guess it comes back to the risk vs reward argument.

His prospective opponents see easier fights elsewhere. They might beat Lopez, but the risks to their future income is too high; i.e. they don't like the odds of losing. The problem is that the current ranking system allows fighters to dodge boxers they don't want to face.

I believe there should be a more stern mandatory competition rule: belt holder's next fight must ALWAYS be the highest ranked challenger available - no ifs, no buts. Maybe we'll see the end of 'managed' title defences then.

I also think they should tighten the timing for defending a belt. Currently, inactive titleholders get to hang onto their belts for far too long without having to put it on the line.

High-Risk-Low Reward I Guess, His unimpressive record isn't helping him, Even though he has been winning these last couple of years.
Isn't he signed to Golden Boy? Lopez needs to keep winning for now i think he will get his shot at the upper tier level fighter's soon enough.

he's like a glen johnson, he's just not a very entertaining fighter to watch

 

Most Mexican fighters had short amateur careers and turned pro too early. It appears that he is a man that has learned from his defeats. He has not lost in 4 years.

He ended the career of Lonnie Bradley a highly touted prospect who had beaten Beasley and drawn Otis Grant.

He KO'd a Epifanio Mendoza that years later fought Jeff Lacy to a split decision and beat Vivian Harris.

His 12 losses look ugly on his record but you have to admire this guy from rebounding from so many losses a la Freddy Pendelton.

 

He is a good fighter now...A real dark horse at 154-160.

 

9 out of his 12 loses were by ko with most of them coming before the 5th round. I dont think he will be going anywhere. Plus he is 31 years old not 23 or 24 like most Mexicans who would have that many loses only to be good fighters later on. He is a decent fighter but I dont see him beating any of the elite.

 

He has come a long way defensively though...Probably as a result of those early KO losses.

I have seen shitter fighters bag a title...I think the champs at 154-160 are a little good for him to be a real threat but anyone else is in for a real stern test once Lopez gets going.

Nope, Pirog is... Lopez isn't bad too however, but making 154lb can hurt him even though his is pretty sure that'll be an easy task to accomplish. Middleweight is his weight class I think and at 154lb he is too slow and flat-footed.

 

Pirog avoided? The guy has got some great developing fights, and in his last fight, Ahmet Önet invited him to his backyard to fight one of his own boys, Jantuah. IMO Pirog has been very lucky so far, by getting really good fights, he is going forward nicely. And Pirog´s EBU rating are so good, that he will get his european title shot anyway pretty soon, if he wants that. Or if the WBO belt becomes vacant, expect Pirog to fight for it.
