Toney fans, let's face it, there are strong indications that James' hall of fame career has come to an end: - Toney hasn't fought since last December, an outing in which he showed a pretty poor performance against Oquendo; - Toney's new promotional banner, light's out promotions hasn't been able to carry itself and seems to have been poorly managed so far; - Toney's proposed match up against Lyakhovich fell through several times, with no major network willing to show it; - Toney's age, 41 in August, is becoming more and more of a factor and clearly harms his marketability; - Toney's health condition is, with James showing some signs of slowed speech pattern especially since the 2nd Peter fight, also to be questioned at this point of his career; Toney's future in the ring appears to be up to anybody's guess now, so what do you think: will Toney ever fight again??
He looked horrendous against Oquendo for all intents and purposes. I wish he'd hang 'em up, but, if Holyfield is still going....well
I hear you Antsu - if Toney's career is to be continued he should sign with DKP asap. Only King can guarantee him a shot at the WBA title in the near future...
Retired or not he's not going to do **** in the division with the Klitschkos clearly dominating. He called them out the most and was the first to run with his Happy Burger King Kids meal when they called him out. Might as well juice his fat ass with some roids to go life and death with guys like Batchelder.
the toney that destroyed holyfield would KO wlad, and I firmly believe that......like commentator said that night "its as if james toney turned back the clock by 10 years"
With all due respect and I say this as a Toney supporter, James will never be able to regain the same type of shape as against Holyfield... The best we can expect is the Rahman II version of Toney. I think that at 226, if smartly matched, James could still be somewhat of a factor in the division. I could see him doing well against most of the contenders right now.
Toney is one of the most skill boxers EVER to have laced up a pair of gloves. A TRUE ATG and although sometimes lazy, his amazing defense and vicious offense was a joy to behold even into his later years. Middleweight to Heavyweight and just unknockoutable. Amazing stuff.
Wlad would toy with Toney. An undersized, very skilled defensive master without serious HW power? Sounds like Chris Byrd, who is more similar to Toney than any other HW. Only Byrd fought much better competition that Toney and Wlad utterly annihilated him twice.
