Hey guys, have you ever heard of presumption of innocence? Do you have any evidence against Tito here?
Vargas' defense was underrated. Sure, he got hit with bombs in this fight, but overall, he made Tito miss a lot. And, Vargas' best punch was the left hook to the body.
Evidence? How about the chief inspector of the New York State Athletic Commission determining that Team Trinidad was wrapping Tito's hands in an illegal fashion? How about Don Felix admitting that he "..always wrapped Trinidad's hands hands that way?" How about Don Felix admitting - "Well, it got to us a little because, since I couldn’t place the tape that I usually place on Tito’s hand... I had to add some more gauze... This tends to take away some of the power in the punch." - (Don Felix admitting that using these materials adds to the power of the punch, FFS...) _______________ Richardson compared the hand-wrap flap (Margarito/Mosley) to forcing Felix Trinidad to re-tape his hands before a loss in September, 2001 to Bernard Hopkins in New York. “Same thing with Tito’s hands,’’ said Richardson, then Hopkins’ trainer. “This plastic-like substance fell out from behind the gauze on Tito’s hands." Hopkins: "If you put on tape, then gauze, then tape, then gauze, it's like a [plaster] cast. It's like being hit with a baseball bat. I'm giving out some secrets here, but you can dip your hands in ice water and that tape will, like, marinate and become harder. But it's only cheating if you get caught. Personally, I think Vargas' and Reid's people dropped the ball. Naazim did a brilliant job in spotting what [Felix Trinidad Sr.] was doing with the wraps." _______________ A few past foes of Felix Trinidad believe the former three-division champion has been illegally wrapping his hands for all these years. It was only when the representatives of Bernard Hopkins' camp made a fuss prior to their bout on September 29th, did it fully come to light. William Joppy has a strong opinion about all this. As you read this, Joppy is in Big Bear, California in preparation for his comeback bout against Howard Eastman on the November 17th undercard of Hasim Rahman-Lennox Lewis II. When we last saw Joppy, a former two-time WBA middleweight titlist, he was getting blasted out in five explosive rounds by Trinidad in May. Joppy would remark afterwards that he had never been hit quite like that. Now, it has a new meaning to it. "HELL YEAH!" exclaimed Joppy. "Absolutely, its like, you and me fighting on the street and I put my brass knuckles on." Joppy, who was visibly dazed after his fight against Trinidad, says that Trinidad's punches had an unnatural feeling to them. "I've been hit with good shots," Joppy told MaxBoxing.com. "But I was like, 'Damn! He ain't that strong!' I've been up against guys where they say, 'Man, this guy can hit, watch him,' And I've been hit by them and they could hit, but I could weather the storm. And I know he beefed up even more since he moved to middleweight, his father probably did something. His father loves him so much, that's his baby, so he has to give his son that extra advantage. They've been doing it his whole career." According to Joppy, all of Trinidad's past accomplishments are now tainted. "He's a cheat," Joppy said. "Before I heard about that, I was like,' I take my hat off to him. He's a great champion, he should go to the Hall of Fame'. But I can't give him that anymore, his whole record, he's 40-1 — it's nothing now. You can't do that anymore, he's cheating like a Panama Lewis." Fernando Vargas, current WBA 154-pound titlist, had faced Trinidad prior to 'Tito's' destruction of Joppy. In the aftermath of taking five knockdowns over 12 rounds at the hands of Trinidad, Vargas, according to many observers has not been the same fighter he was before facing the Puerto Rican superstar. "When I got hit," recalled Vargas. "I was like, 'did Mike Tyson just hit me or something?' I mean, I knew he was strong and everything but that was ridiculous. I couldn't believe what he was hitting me with." Vargas admits that his representatives 'dropped the ball' in not catching the infraction of Trinidad's wrapping like the Hopkins camp. "Next time, I'll definitely have someone in there who knows what they're doing in looking for that stuff," he said. Vargas declined to name who was in Trinidad's dressing room before their fight last December. But Vargas said that he was warned of such shenanigans in Trinidad's homeland on the press tour for 'Forces of Destruction.' "Somebody came up to me at the press conference in Puerto Rico," stated Vargas. "He was Puerto Rican and I don't know who he is, but I've seen him around many fights, he's affiliated with boxing. I don't know if he's a trainer, manager, whatever he might be. He said, 'Look, I'm Puerto Rican, but I don't like Trinidad's people. I'm gonna tell you guys, you better watch out for the way he wraps.' And I'm over here thinking, 'I mean, what can you do with your wraps?' Y'know what I'm saying? I didn't really pay it no mind and obviously we sent somebody in there who didn't know too much about wraps." Joppy himself is a bit miffed that his camp didn't catch the infraction and says that he was warned by a recognizable name. "Actually, Hasim Rahman, he came back to my dressing room and said, 'Go check the wraps, make sure you get somebody on that,' but I was so hyped up, ready to fight. I was like, 'It's alright, it's alright'. I never thought he'd be a cheat. I thought he was a professional, a fair and square type of guy. He's been cheating his whole career." "Tito, is still one of my favorite fighters," claimed Fisher. "I think Trinidad realized that before being in the dressing room that he was a worried individual. I think he realized that when we had the initial press conference in New York that he was in trouble. Then everything else that transpired over in Puerto Rico, he realized he was in trouble then. But I think that he figured if I can get this one hook over, I can have a shot. But he couldn't get it over. Well, he could get it over, but he didn't have his weapon." So how exactly were Trinidad's hands wrapped? "They were basically layering his hand, he had gauze, tape, gauze, tape, gauze, tape — it was like four or five layers, in contrast to being a layer of gauze, with a knuckle pad which was gauze and then layers of tape. They had four of five layers of gauze and tape."
Way to bring this thread to a Screechin' hault SR...... It's cool for most of the same guys to call Margarito a cheater, But not "Tito". (That said I'm w/you **** those quotes & all the bull**** talk)
Some morons appear to believe the only fight where Tito's wraps were inspected was for the fight with Hopkins. Besides, saying "the amount of tape was suspicious" is not proof of anything illegal. IS not like he had plaster or anything like that!!!!
Tito was found with "Tape and Gauze" . They just thought it was too much. sounds like matter of opinion. Tito was going to lose that fight anyways. It wasn't the wraps. Same as DLH vs. Hopkins. None of them belonged up in those weights.
dude this is bs, everything tito's dad used was llegal its jus the ways to he wraps. not everyone is the same, he might but it's true there are rules yes, and u have to follow but tito didn't get accused of anything for this fight and he didn't have an illegal substance like margarito who had somwthing that shouldn't be there tito's stuff was good, jus the way he put it, nasim richardson blowing it out of context of course, yet after the hopkins fight he knocked out mayorga and im pretty sure he had his hands wrapped good, so nothing illegal for tito jus pure punching power.
I had Tito winnig that round with the flurry at the end. He had vargas going at that point. Tito showed his heart in this fight and that hias chin is not glass. He had great recuperative powers and great determination each and every time he got knocked down.
Please save the bull****...have you ever boxed before? Hands can be wrapped in a number of different ways sometimes depending on the officials they will accept certain amounts of gauze it has no effect on the power of the punch. No doubt the low blows bought tito time but I've been rocked by dudes 5 or 6 inches shorter than me in the sack area and all it does is make you want to visit the toilet for about a minute or two, it does not **** you over for another 8rnds. Enjoy the fight for what its worth and leave the bull**** conspiracy theories for someone that cares.
