Marquez agreed to fight Mayweather because he knows it will be a huge payday, and likely his last huge payday. 147 is absurd. This fight should be at 135 at best. And even that's too big for Marquez. He's not like Pacquiao, who carried his power and speed up with him in weight. He's succeeded at LW because he is a master boxer. But against another master boxer at a ridiculously high weight, and at the age of 38, he will be destroyed. I see Marquez's corner throwing in the towel around the 7th round .

It is a mismatch until Marquez proves it otherwise in the ring witch i think he will.
Just like Pac-DLH was a Mismatch most fans gave Pac little chance against DLH and rightfully so I mean i for one can admit i had my doubts about Pac beating DLH but he proved a lot of people wrong that night..

The thing is, Marquez going after Floyd seems like it was born more out of desperation on Marquez's side. Marquez wants big fights, and since he can't get a 3rd crack at Pac we called out Floyd.

You can't really use the HW division as an example, at the lower weights, size is a much bigger issue than it is at HW. And it's not like we're talking jumping 1 division, Marquez is going up against a fighter 2 divisions away from him.

Bottom line is Marquez agreed to the fight so weight is a non issue. Its just an excuse. if he thought he was too small then he shouldn't have signed.

And yes I can use the heavyweight division. How is that its okay for guys 6'6 250 to fight guys 6'1 210 and no one complains. But then everybody wants to whine about 5 or ten pounds oin the lower weight class.

I really admire Marquez for taking on PBF knowing that PBF was a former P4P fighter and is undefeated. Although PBF's reason for picking Marquez as a tune up fight to get rid of ring rust, he may have picked the wrong guy to have a tune up fight with. JMM is no pushover.

That's just the thing, Marquez was highly avoided/mismanaged fighter early in his career. He's late in his career and it's only now that he's getting the really big fights. I'm more inclined to believe that he's more after the payday than he is the glory. He doesn't have much options in terms of getting mega fights so it's not that hard to imagine that maybe for Marquez, the big payday is worth the fact that he's biting off more than he can chew.

As for the heavyweights, I thought it was pretty much accepted that at higher weights, the weight discrepancy isn't as pronounced as it is in the lower weights.

Really? JMM is technicallya better boxer than Cotto but much samller and unproven at 140 or 147. And he struggled against the likes of a Juan Diaz and a very old Casa. A prime JMM wouldn't have had the amount of difficulties he had with Diaz or the Casa we saw him struggle against. Maybe a prime Casa, but not the Casa who barely beat Katsidis. JMM is on the slide IMHO and a prime Floyd who holds all the physical advantages will not have many problems when they fight. Its admirable of JMM to accept this kind of fight but I don't think he has a chance.

Nah. JMM is a technically better boxer than Pac but that don't make him a better fighter. Especially when JMM can't beat Pac the 2 times they've faught. Pac is the better fighter purely because he is more talented, athletic and has more natural gifts the work in his favor. Not that JMM isn't great! He is, but Pac is a special fighter that has proven to be a cut above the rest as Floyd has done based on his skills and ability.

And JMM won't be more difficult than Pac simply because JMM has a similar style to Floyd but Floyd is bigger, faster and better. Pac has similar qualities and natural gifts that rival floyds own although Floyd is a better technical boxer than Pac. No question Pac presents a far mor difficult challenge than JMM does.

Could be. Marquez hasn't really made any money in a sense and he could be contemplating retirement.
