Hey guys so I recently joined club. I was wondering what do you think the most important aspects to work on as a beginner to get myself ready for my first fight? I'm 137 lbs, 16 yrs. old. I have practiced many boxing instructional video's prior to joining and fought plenty after school with gloves. I'd say i have reasonable speed and punching power.
Runnign with weights are supposedly bad for your joints so I would be careful with em. Maybe someone who knows more about that can comment. Cardio do lots, as you stated you already do, but mix it up regularly too. Dont do a basic 3 mile run every other day. Then lots of shadow boxing, work on the basics. I've boxed for 5 years now and I still do more shadow boxing more than anything else. Besides running, timewise. If your boxing after school was anything like mine, it was not boxing at all, it was basicly street fighting without biting or knees, and with gloves.
hahaha thats exactly how boxing at school is for me too :nut but i practice the basic punches and such when the guy is going all wild, chin sticken out. How long should i spent on shadow boxing? I watched Arthur Abraham do it with weights on, you think that helps ?
Probably varies from person to person. I shadowbox for 5 rounds with 1 lb weights in my hand every time I go to boxing (5 days a weekish) for a warm up after several rounds of rope. Then when I go running I run intervals for 2 miles to a park in my neighborhood, do some pull ups, pushups, and some shadow boxing if no little kids are stareing then run back. Then I also shadowbox in the shower, in front of the microwave, on the toilet, basicly whenever I see a mirror, they seem to have that effect on me.
Keep boxing up for AT LEAST 6 months you won't do a lot in less time and then you can see what's going on.
Skills. Learn to throw a correct punch, learn what to do inside a ring, study footwork, etc. Your strength, stamina, etc. will improve while you learn your trade. Don't put the carriage in front of the horse.
dont be afraid, i went into my 1st fight nervous as hell and got whupped,, fight your own fight and keep your hands up,, dont tire yourself out either!
