From the pics, it looks like a clear horrible foul...

See, even our animals know the importance of varying your punches. Body head combo practiced to perfection. :D

Not to mention the fancy footwork.

Drunkenboxer , you are absolutely correct in what you say and what's the point in sugar coating it . Forget the local scene it's a joke and lobby one HD to show world class ' international boxing ' from the US , europe or even asia because for whatever reason local aussie show's are always a disgrace whether it's fox sports or now One HD . I really hope it get's better but I doubt it ever will . Australia must be a laughing stock in professional boxing overseas and what trainer in his right mind would ever send his fighter here to fight !

Yeah - You guys conviniently forgot you lost the Ashes 5-0 in Australia in 06. Too busy knighting Brits for winning something ;)

The Dib fight was a disgrace - But that was ultimatley the fault of the referee who just didn't officiate well and as an Aussie you won't hear me whine about the first Beyer/Green fight again with the officiating in Germany - That was even worse.

That said: It was the first time boxing has been on free to air for 23 years or so - The sports media in the country have no idea about boxing - It can only get better.

The fact I get something for free in the fight game is awesome.

The fact the Dib fight was a farce is a shame.

The Vea/McKracken fight, whilst hardly world class - Was very entertaining though.

How many professional boxers do you think we have in Australia?

How much experience do our refs have?

How many broadcasts or news reports in Australia do boxing reportage with any authority or knowledge?

It was a disastrous first night, but the only way is up.

I'm not going to give up and I will also attend the Canberra show live in a couple of weeks at the AIS because if you want to improve things then you need to support it - Constructive criticism is a useful tool, slagging it is not.

Thats a good way to look at it. The next card can't really be any worse than lastnight's. At least all the controversy surrounding it might actually expose the series to the public somewhat.

Johnny Lewis, Paul Kent and the other commentators are a disgrace.

The Jap slipped when taking a shot by Dibb, wasn't a clear KD but then hit again whilst he was down........ instant DQ to Billy Dibb.

    Well not really.

Jones Jnr will get the video of this fight and never get his passport.

One positive - HD boxing ROCKS on my 46" Sony fancy schmancy TV.

Well, aside from the ring being really friggin small, I wouldn't be sledging the production if they didn't make themselves an easy target. I agree, it isn't in their best interests to talk down their own fight promotion, but the least I would expect is for the ringside analysts to be paid to impartially analyze, not to smooth things over as though they themselves had a share of the profits. Despite the shameful end to the main event, there were positives to focus on and it was sad to see someone I respect as much as Johnny Lewis playing along with the game.

Agreed. It was an exciting fight befitting of a free-to-air production between two decent guys. They could have stressed this point and still maintained some semblance of integrity...

    Fancy footwork! :yep

There's something very meaningful in the fact that our national emblem depicts two animals physically incapable of taking a backward step.

  14. Dibbs fights are fixed.

I saw the Dibbs fight on the Mundine-Crazy Kim undercard in Newcastle last year. It seemed pretty obvious to everyone in the crowd that he lost the fight. But sure enough the judges awarded him the decision. It was a disgrace and the crowd responded appropriately.

Got to meet Shane Mosley though, that was something

I have to agree Jokerswild about Dibbs fights , I saw him do a similar thing to one of his opponents few years back , fouling etc . He should have been disqualified but somehow was awarded the fight and the other fight you mentioned where he was clearly outpointed but yet got the nod . The HBO guy's treated him with the distain he deserves when he lost to Lueveno . The dude must be some kind of superman in the gym though , I mean for a guy like Shane Mosley to have gotten so excited about him and De La Hoya promoting him for a while however on fight night he suck's dog's balls !There's been a few guy's like that over the years much better in the gym than on fight night . Perhaps someone around Dibb should look at better mental preparation for his fights coz like i said the dude much show some stuff for people to rave about him the way they do !
