    There's also the language difficulty. Other than Abraham, the rest speak fluent English and you could see Former King Arthur being a bit uncomfortable there. He's in because Kalle Sauerland made the tournament and probably learning the language anyway.

    This will be a very well promoted show with a lot of documentary/reality show stuff and it doesn't work without speaking the language which is English in this tourney.

    There was never a real chance for Bute to face Kessler. Kessler called Bute out when he was injured. As for Froch, Bute never chickened out. I could say Froch chickened out in 2007, refusing a shot at the mandatory spot against Bute. Bute just refused to face Froch because he wants to face Andrade, who is by the way a tougher fight for him stylistically than Froch.

    Seriously whoever moans about this tournament is a fool!!!

    Would anyone seriously want Balszay over any of the 6 fighters mentioned???

    Bute is more deserving of a spot but with this being a Showtime event they wanted 3 Americans in...plus they've got the consensual best SMW (Kessler), and a top fighter from probably the next 2 biggest boxing nations (in terms of generating money)!!

    I feel bad for Bute but I'll not be complaining about this tournament at all!!!

    arthurs english isnt all that bad and speaking small amounts of it can assist greatly in popularity, look at duran. people knew he couldnt speak it but when he tried people loved the effort he was making. i know what you mean though, i can see showtime turning this into a mini soap opera and for drawing in general sports fans thats a good thing. it will also draw in fringe boxing fans because for the 1st time people can see fights beyond the one immedialely in front of them.

    not that much is being lost in not having bute and balzaly in it imo. bute is the only one that currently matters out of them and if he keeps winning and looks good in doing so a big unification would be on after the final.

    even if guys lose it will stil be good for their standing and records because of the names in there. hopefully one of the young americans stands up and causes a couple of surprises to keep the yanks interested and no so euro centric

    i'd say bute needed to fight andrade because the ending of their last fight was a disgrace and he needs to redeem himself in many peoples minds

    No one is complaining. We just would like our favourite boxer to be in it. That's a great thing for boxing , with many interesting match ups.

    He had to do it for himself first. He may have been part of the tournament if he had chosen to face Froch instead of Andrade but I understand why he wants to face Andrade again.

    He may after Andrade face one of the two who won't make the semi-finals, then wait for th others. Or jump in the tournament if someone is injured. When waiting, he can face Pavlik, Dawson or Green. I'm not sure Universum will let Balsay face Bute.

    It's a joke that from all possible critiques, it's STURM questioning the QUALITY of this tournament. Hey, fool, what about the quality of Sato, huh ?

    BTW, Balzsay isn't in because he fights on ZDF, and ARD is already in it. Also, ZDF cuts down on its budget for boxing, and may not show boxing at all in the near future anymore. So how should they include a boxer from a rival stable of Sauerland who does not even have a TV contract next year anymore ?

    Regarding Bute, it was probably really a decision regarding his network contract, and how he would fit in the marketing. They already had 3 european promising names with big TV following, and they couldn't sell Bute as an "american" if they would have put him into a stars and stripes gear straight from Apollo Creeds "Rocky" fundus. It's not about his quality.

    Lets clear up a few things shall we:

    1. Sauerland did own an option on a Bute fight (as part of the agreement to stage the Berrio-Bute fight in Montréal). However, when the proposed fight between Bute and Mads Larsen fell through, Interbox repurchased that option. As such, Sauerland no longer has an option on Bute;

    2. Showtime confirmed during the press conference announcing the tournament that Bute was never contacted about the tournament, let alone offered a spot. Hence, his absence has nothing to do with his team or the IBF;

    3. Bute and Froch wanted a unification fight between them to happen, but they couldn't get the TV to work. Given that Andrade would have had to be paid a substantial step aside fee not to enforce his mandatory rights, Bute vs. Froch only made sense if big money was involved. No TV, no big money;

    4. Just so we are clear, I think the tournament is wonderful. I would have wanted Bute there because I would have liked the tournament to crown an undisputed champion and that's impossible without Bute and/or Andrade involved. That said, its still an incredible lineup. Clearly Showtime felt that it needed at least three Americans to make this work. Now, why they preferred Abraham to Bute for the 3 non-Americans I don't know, but its not like Abraham is a chump.

    Isn't Bute going to be on PPV vs Andrade?

    If he's going to be on an HBO BASED PPV in Sept, I imagine that's why he was left out.

    I would've loved for Bute to have been in on this but alas que sera sera.
