For all the flack that Jermain Taylor has gotten in the press and some rightfully so, When you take into account his quality of opposition since 2005 where he fought: Bernard Hopkins 2x Winky Wright Kassim Ouma Cory Spinks Kelly Pavlik 2x Jeff Lacy Carl Froch 5-3-1 record He's essentially fighting top tier fighters and even in the fights that his detractors claim he got a gift decision in, he's essentially been very competitive in every single last one of those fights. He was never thoroughly out boxed and in both his stoppage losses he was ahead on cards with a KD in his favor. IMHO how often do fighters in recent years take on this kind of schedule? Win or lose he provides great entertainment and when he meets Abraham I'm certain that he will push Abraham to the limit if not beat him. Bottom line: Jermain Taylor is talented fighter who has taken advantage of the opportunities presented to him. He may have not lived up to all the hype but he's give it a college try each time and he's never ducked anyone.
True. Jermain has come through the worst of the flak he has gotten for being a protected fighter and is now proving that he fights the best to the best, whether or not he always wins!
I agree and think he has been given an unfair rap. He did lose a few, but who in boxing has fought that many great fighters consecutively? The guy was discredited by many because he was viewed as "HBO's boy", but he did not run from anyone. I think he gets dumped on far too much. He shows up in good shape and always fights hard. If he could somehow find a way to train for some round 10-12 stamina, then he would be much better off. Until the last few seconds of the Froch fight, he clearly deserved the win because he was beating Froch well. When his tank ran out, he fell off. Either way, he is a good guy and has fought every top contender and not taken the tune-ups or long layoffs that other fighters have. I hope the guy can put the past behind him and do well in the future.
Jermain Taylor don't know what a tune-up is. (Which is why he's one of the better fighter's of this era, Win/Lose)
Would a Taylor win be an upset? Most people, who know their sh*t and have seen Abraham fight see it rather even, but only because Taylor is kind of on a slide. If it's just Taylor and his accomplishments vs. Abraham and his, plus the fact that he moved up in weight, most would actually favour Taylor.
Taylor has taken some hard punches. Don't know what to think about his fight with Abraham. We will see.
I think Taylor stands a good chance to be the first man to defeat Abraham. Abraham has power but his workrate is shitty. Taylor has just to do little more than Abraham in each round, so that he doesn´t tire late, as he did against Froch. Froch has way better workrate than Abraham.
I think Abraham is vastly overrated. He has decent power at times, but his technique is very bad IMO. That garbage about doing nothing but holding up his guard for a whole round, then punching the next seems so amateur. I have watched just a couple of his fights, so maybe they were just bad ones, but he is slow, plodding, and only fights a couple rounds...the rest he just holds up his guard. I say if the fight ends before 10 rounds then JT wins. If it goes past 10, then well JT's stamina may come into play yet again. I will definitely root for JT to beat the boring Abraham.
Taylor is a very good fighter but he needs to overcome his stamina problems. I hope he does well in the tournament.
