lol you know its a war when both trainers are saying "im not gonna let you take this kind of punishment" to each of their fighters.

My gf, between applause - "I love that ref" (1st fight). It is pretty awesome that he wouldn't let McGirt stop the fight before the 10th.

    "Nah, this fight's not over..."

Round 3 in the rematch is almost as :scaredas: as Round 9 in the first.

What magnificent fights between these two warriors. I have to give HBO props for doing this. RIP Gatti.

Foreman was the perfect guy to call the second fight.

    "These are men."

Could only be improved if you replaced Lampley with a prime Ernest Hemingway.

Although Mr. Arturo (THUNDER) Gatti wasn't the most talented world champion to enter the ring or the most boisterous loud mouth in or out of the ring. Thunder had a unique quality. Arturo was humble, and had as much if not more heart than 99% of the fighters around, bar none, without exception !!! Win or lose, his fights were entertaining. That was his job, to entertain the fans. He entertained in the ring, not just on fake reality pre fight shows. Even though Mayweather gave Gatti a lesson in the ring, I think that Mayweather could take a more important lesson from Arturo in life. I am sad that Thunder is gone, I take solace in the fact that his legacy will live on forever in the sport of boxing, and until I depart this world. Although I don't believe in God or the afterlife, I hope that I am wrong, because I want to see you again my friend !!!

Arturo, I'll keep the drinks flowing. You have my respect, my admiration and my thanks. Good bye and thank you my friend !!!

****ing amazing job by McGirt. As Gatti utters all he can muster, "my hand...my hand...", Buddy calmly asks "Well what do you want me to do?" and then quickly changes the subject. "Stick the jab in his chest, then left hooks to the body but don't stay in there long enough to get hit to the body yourself. Come on, champion."

Grace under fire, exhibited by both fighter and trainer.

He's still making a living as a trainer based on his ONE performance.

Yeah, he didn't amount to the second coming of Angelo Dundee, but on 06/07/03 he was more or less perfect.

Well I never said he was anything like that...but the last big fight he was in the winning corner for was what? Antonio Tarver vs Clinton Woods?

Gatti won that fight clearly with one mother****ing hand. I've only ever seen one other fighter do that - Clottey (against Margarito...even though he only won on my unofficial scorecard). And Gatti did so more spectacularly, and had to walk through far more hell to do it.

I agree with 96-93. Ward earned three rounds plus the KD. Which in itself is a serious testament to the moxie of the then-nearly-38-year-old, who had already scored the upset in the 1st fight (really, his last best effort) and had absolutely nothing to prove. The fact that he committed to his hail-mary gameplan, for better or worse - to incorporate a jab and move style with his body attack - from bell to bell, find moments of success with it is a difficult triumph to top (as is staying on his feet). Unless you were to, say, dominantly win a fight with a badly broken hand. :nod
