I don't mean actually being the promoter so don't say De La Hoya. I want to know who was the best at promoting and drawing attention in the build up to their fights (besides Ali who is the obvious pick). Which fighter was the best at talking smack and pulling stunts to get people to watch their fights. The funny thing is that the guys who are the best at it do it by getting the fans to hate them. PBF comes to mind for obvious reasons. B-Hop was great at it: throwing a Puerto Rican flag to the ground in Puerto Rico and causing a riot, countless memerable weigh-ins. I can't go without mentioning Tyson who has more memorable quotes than any athlete in recent memory. Among the younger fighters you could throw David Haye's name out there, all the stunts he pulled and the t-shirt he wore were why everyone wanted to see his fight with Vlad. Personally, I have to go with Tyson though he was so entertaining. Who are your favorites though?
Prince Naseem Hamed, a lot of people watched his fights in the hope of seeing him getting knocked out.
too bad he disappeared too quickly after getting exposed by barrera. I would have love to see him fight morales-pacquiao-marquez. anyways mayorga is one of the best at promoting fights. I dont even understand spanish but i like to watch his pre fight antics. I love how he talk trash to vargas on tv and many other opponents.
Oh, my mistake. Tyson was ok, but it was more of his fighting style and unpredictable nature inside the ring that made people care about his fights. I would have to say Mayweather because he has an unexciting style, yet, his antics outside of the ring drive people crazy. They want to see him knocked unconcious.
True, but Mayweather consistently plays the role of the cocky, arrogant, money loving villian. He even changed his nickname to money. Also, he is the brain child of 24/7, so you know he understands that he needs to be a promoter/boxer if he wants to stack his chips.
Yeah, I like B-Hop more, he was much more in the opponents face talking **** to them, and he had so many great lines. I loved when he was face to face with Calzaghe before their fight and he kept saying "I will never lose to a white man!" Mayweather just talks about himself all the time and how much money he has. When Mayweather goes face to face in a weigh in or promotional tour you know nothing was gonna happen, with Hopkins you know there is gonna be drama or it might get physical even, like it did with Winky.
You also have to factor in the entertainment value and drama that the Mayweather's bring to a fight as a whole. I mean, Roger can sell PBF's fight without PBF actually saying anything, and you never know what the father son status is with big floyd and little floyd.
hopkins likes to hype his fights but i think he does it more to get to his opponents heads than to promote
